Settlements are cities with glass jaws?

Mon Nov 03, 2014 9:23 am

Why do settlements want so much supply?

SupplyProd = 2
AmmoProd = 1
Out_WSU = 0
Out_Money = 0
Out_Conscript = 0
SupplyWant = 20
AmmoWant = 6
MinLevelSend = 10
MinLevelWant = 1

A level 1 city has lesser needs.

SupplyProd = 6
AmmoProd = 0
Out_WSU = 0
Out_Money = 0
Out_Conscript = 0
SupplyWant = 4
AmmoWant = 4
MinLevelSend = 3
MinLevelWant = 3

As most of us have seen, this has the effect of making settlements into bloated areas, while the lowest level of city can barely supply an infantry regiment sometimes.

Wait, is this a trick question like, why did the chicken cross the road o.O?

I believe settlements are like stockades with less protection. They certainly draw supplies like stockades, and I once had a battle in one--I believe I was assaulting--with the aftermath saying that the fort in so-n-so was destroyed in the battle.

When I think of "setllement" I think frontier settlement. While I can understand that they would want to stock up on supplies, I still think of them as sparsely populated, and not needing as much supply to be stocked up. I think half as much supply want would be sufficient, but maybe I'm missing something.

This is per level. Settlements are always level 1, so will want, as their ideal stockpile, 20 supplies and 6 ammos. Think of it as the abstraction of a small depot to supply a few regiments passing through. Perhaps it's a bit too high, but that's on the safe side and is most probably harmless in the end. Who cares if your settlements stockpile 20 supplies and not 10...

Pocus, that sounds very reasonable and I agree it's harmless. If it was 20 instead of 10, I probably wouldn't notice or care. But it ends up being 100+ units instead of 20. Just how greedy are these frontiersmen? :wacko:

It just seemed so markedly different than what I saw cities accumulate.

With the general overabundance of supply, yea, it is harmless. :eyebrow:
