Attrition

Mon Oct 20, 2014 10:57 pm

I recently suffered 28 hits (10,000+ casualties) in an eleven day move from one region into another; that's almost an entire division. Target region was 100% enemy MC, hills, & covered in snow. I had 4 supply trains with my forces, so I expected to trade supply points for hits but that didn't happen. At the beginning of the planning phase for the next turn, my supply wagons were full. Is the supply point/attrition hit trade only operative when forces remain stationary?

Had a similar experience - was not following a road. Could there be a difference between moving on a road and crossing over a road.

I think as long as there is a road or railroad in the target region, the engine gives you credit for using it. I believe what counts is that you move into a region which has a road/railroad, even if your current region does not; but, moving w/o the benefit of roads/railroads will definitely sap your cohesion.

Were the supply trains empty perhaps?

All supply trains were full upon departure from the home region.

I wish you could post a log for that turn. It's the only way. Anyway, I think elements are easier to die if they retreat in extremely low cohesion. For whatever reason (supplies, weather, battle damage).

Here's the thing: my stack advanced into an unoccupied enemy region; no retreat involved.

I enabled auto-saved turns. If I post a saved game file , can you extract what you need to from the logs?

Again, my situation was very similar. Differences were 5 supply wagons while moving into a Snow covered Clear Region. Began move with good cohesion.

Requested logs etc. from the host - next turn has not been run.

No elements were lost only damaged. I do not see any comment by Red Baron that he lost elements. So why your conclusion that elements were lost?

Army suffered 61 hits.

61 hits!?!? Now I don't feel so bad. I did not lose elements, either; however, I was moving an entire army (as I am sure you were), so there were ample elements across which to spread the damage.

A logical conclusion would be supply points negate attrition hits due to bad weather when stacks remain stationary in a region, not the hits suffered from high cohesion loss caused by marching into a region with harsh weather and/or difficult terrain.

It seems attrition is really high. I would recomend using standard attrition settings instead historical attrition which was the usual choice in previous AGEod games.

Sounds like supply wagons aren't soaking up hits like they should. Pocus, are there particular settings in the models file which might be missing that take care of this attrition damage soak?

Might it be to do with the fact that supply units now only have 2 elements?
Even if you are in a region which should be in good supply, these don't pull as much supply as supply units do in other AGE games......

Don't know. I had 5 wagons depleted to go along with 50 hits for an Army with a medic.
