Yes Pocus. I think it is the lack of info upfront (in the first screen where you choose your options) that is confusing people. I suggest providing players with the following info on the first screen:
1) My force composition ie numbers of (inf/cav/art) + their level of cohesion.
2) The terrain and the weather.
3) The stats of my generals who are involved in the battle.
4) My stance ie ASSAULT/ATTACK/DEFEND/PASSIVE AND THE ROE. PLUS THE STANCE OF THE OTHER SIDE.

AFTER the battle it would be nice to know whether one side or the other retreated out of the province. Currently all we have is won/defeated/ stale mate. Any other information to help the player understand WHY he won/lost would really help for planning future battles.

Often other troops from nearby provinces march to the sound of the guns and join the battle. It would be nice to see these troops seperated out in the after battle summary or highlighted somehow. I think that the Battle Planner has a lot of potential to make the game exciting. Thanks!

First off, can I just say that I am really impressed with game, as new player to AGEOD games.

As a newbie player and taking those baby steps to learn the engine, though I can see my PWR I have no idea what my force is made up of and I find that the biggest inhibitor of my battle plans. I have chosen a few ART based plans when I have a small percentage of it.

Also with some many provinces and generals it would be nice to just have a brief overview of the fight, though this may annoy some veterans.

I haven't seen it happen. There is the first round, where both sides employ a general strategy, and all the consecutive rounds, where a more specific approach is applied. And then there are failed/countered plans which result in rounds with standard deployment. Have you seen something else?

I'm fairly certain that's his reference. Both the player's and AI's forces can drop back to the basic battle plan due to failure, though I'm not certain of the trigger.

Failed strategic roll I think
