How to do replay in latest patch

Mon Feb 24, 2014 5:50 am

Just in case someone else was as confused as I was on how to do the replay feature that has been added back in to the game, how to do it is described in the designer patch update notes:

Console-based Replay feature makes a comeback (experimental support!). If your current turn has a replay (bring it from the Options menu, but Replay slow down turn processing and needs a lot of memory), then invoke the console and type loadreplay. Once the console has finished loading, you can hit space to start/pause/resume replay or hit escape to abort it.

I just checked it out and it worked like a charm. The console is summoned by clicking the

`

key (on the top left of your standard keyboard, just below the ESC).

Many thanks to the developers for returning Replay, which is an extremely valuable feature. For one, you can see which way units are heading even if they don't make it to the next area (and so would otherwise look completely stationary without replay), giving you a glimpse into the intentions of the opponent.

Happy to be help!

On some keyboards, the sign is a ² not ` , anyway this is the key under ESCAPE. The console can also allow some others things bordering cheating :)

How about F12? RebelYell and I just started a PbeM.

No string to enter in the console display?

My suspicion is that it might be different for a number of keyboards. I tried it the way Ace and Pocus suggested and it did not work at all. Kept trying various options and eventually discovered that on my HP keyboard the console is invoked by pressing the hash - # - key which is nowhere near the escape key. If you are having difficulties I suggest you do the same as I did and experiment. :)

Aren't you supposed to first load the game, then go to the console to see the replay?

No. Load the game. While on the map screen, press the tilde button to open the window, type "loadreplay" and press enter.
Note that you have to move yourself around the map to view what you're interested in.
Once the replay is done, you have to press escape to get back to regular "military mode".
I think it's esc, at least. It's been a little while.

ok I have a bit of a problem.... the replay doesn't play for me... I can successfully load it, but then it just sits on "day 1" and does not move forward. I assume it plays like a video....or is it more like a slideshow?

It should be a video. You press the spacebar (American keyboard) to start/stop the video. I believe it usually starts out with the video stopped, and you have to hit the spacebar (or whatever your key is) to get it to move.

For me neither of the suggested keys was it, in my case I had to use:
Ä
what is only on a German keyboard layout.

I hope this feature get integrated much better, I just did some rounds ROP and it's simply so much better with a replay at all not to speak of a real gui that lets you jump back or ahead or rewinds the replay.

I'm glad I finally found this after mucking with it for awhile.
`
+ loadreplay
+ spacebar to get it rolling and Esc at the end to get back to the military map, works fine.
I predict an upsurge of interest now in playing the CSA pbem.
