Blockading Norfolk

Sat Jun 02, 2007 8:16 pm

Can anyone else blockade Norfolk? I've done the following:

1. Four naval units in Cape Henry. It says "You have enough combat units to blockade this zone".

2. Four naval units in Hampton Roads. It says "You have enough combat units to blockade this zone".

3. Two naval units in James Estuary. It says "You have enough combat units to blockade this zone".

James City and Suffolk both show blockaded, but Norfolk does not.

Wish I could help but I only play as the CSA. Let's wait for some Yankees.

I think the coastal tile south of Cape Henry needs units also. I will have to double check when I get home.

Another thing that I do is make all my squadrons contain at least 6 combat ships, this way I do not have to re-arrange my fleets for the various "6 ship" coastal zones.

I currently have Norfolk blockaded. I have ships in the three sea zones as indicated in the Norfolk habour tool tip. i have six ships in Cape Henry, two ships outside Fort Monroe and four ships in the river. For the last site, I do not think that I need that many ships except to defend against the CSN ironclads.

The harbor list 3 exit points (Cape Henry is a bit abusive by the way), so if you have the required number, you should get it under blockade, unless there is a bug!

As for the numbers, 2, 4 or 6, it is not random. You need 4 units if there is no fort around, only 2 if you control a friendly fort, and 6 if an enemy fort is adjacent to the zone.

Pocus,

As noted in my original message, I have the following zones blockaded and Norfolk does not show being blockaded. I can send a save if it would help.

Blockaded zones: Cape Henry, Hampton Roads, James Estuary

Is it just 3 exit points from Norfolk? I could have sworn it was 4.

Odd. I have four in Cape Henry, four in Ft. Monroe and two in the river. All three say "You have enough combat units to blockade this zone". But Norfolk itself does not say it is blockaded in the tooltip. Suffolk does have blockaded in the tooltip.

One question...a ship is not an element, is it? I believe it is the entire unit inclusive of all elements, but want to verify.

Yeah I should have stated that as elements instead. A element can hold from 1-7 ships.

Speaking of elements. Anyone know why it uses elements instead of the blockade value. I hate haveing those wonderful large Blockade Flotillas, that count only as a single element. I would think that they could blockade a port by themselves.

Good point. I've had the same thought go through my head before.

Yes, I have seen Suffolk but never Norfolk as showing blockaded. Even confirmed the blocade values in the 3 sea zones.

send me the saved game yes, this will be faster for me to check the issue.

For now brown water blockade is done at the unit level, but will be refined as soon as we get some time to do it :)

Hey Pocus, can I read that as the brown water blockade will be based off of blockade points instead of unit quantity? If so, I praise you once again for a job well done.

Man, I wished other companies would follow the same pattern on customer support as you guys do. I haven't seen this kind of support in a very long time. Very much appreciated. Thank you.
