Firstly is the percentage on the blockade box the total blockade % for the blue and brown water blockade. If it is not where do I find this figure?
I think I read somewhere on the ACW forum that the posture of your fleet is not applied in the blockade box. Therefore if you are trying to hunt down raiders it is best to leave your fleet on a defensive posture to reduce cohesion loss. Is this valid?
Could someone explain how combat works in the naval off map boxes? If for example you are trying to hunt down raiders in these boxes is it better to have several fleets each with a chance of engaging or one large fleet?
Looking at how cheap transports are I have been building a couple every turn and sending them to the shipping lane box and I am seeing a steady increase in the resources received per turn. Is there a cut off point where the returns start to taper off?
I'm guessing from what I have seen that raiders in the shipping lane box reduce the amount of resources received per turn?

Yes the number in the blockade box is the total blockade percentage for combined blue and brown water. I believe that the blue water maxes out at 40% after which you must blockade ports to increase the number. Also, the number is twice the amount of production that the CSA is actually losing. Despite what might be implied by the rule book the percentage only applies to the cash production. If the CSA is producing $200, then a 40% blockade would cost the CSA $40 per turn in revenue.
I put my ships in the boxes on Green/Green. My ships hold onto their cohesion longer (going on two years). I still occasionally shoot up raiders or blockade runners. If you have one large fleet, then it does more damage when it finds some raiders/runners. I'd rather do 32 points of damage all at once and maybe sink something than pick away at the enemy.
I usually build all the transports I need for military operations and then put them in the sea lanes box when I'm not using them to move troops or supplies. Transports bring in $1/1 WSU per turn. You can figure out how long it takes to pay for itself at your current inflation value. The transport has a better rate of return than building industry.
Every turn the raiders get a chance to do some damage and they may take some hits too. When I play the CSA, I don't use raiders. Raiders may do damage every single turn, but they aren't earning me a dime. When they're gone, I have to pay for a new one that is also not doing anything for me. Naval combat on the high seas doesn't happen very often. It's a big ocean.
