Late Dec 64 - PbeM with havi
Coupla things:
* I have about seven Corps surrounding Richmond, five from McDowell's NEVA and two from Butler's AoVa. Given the Pwr numbers, I can attack at about 2:1, 10K - 12K vs 6K in Richmons. Lee is there, Jackson is there, and PGT is 'on top', showing sandbags. I decide to attack before the trenches are even more.
Four Corps end up in Richmond - no battle. One Corps retreated back to its start, in New Kent; another went to Louisa; the third, from New Kent, decided to go to Hanover Region, if I have that name right.
What the...???
* I had Lew Wallace in C-nooga, Forrest came along and tossed him out, naturally, he retreated in the wrong direction and got dogpiled some more. Number of men was still OK, though. Pope, a fellow Corps, went to the rescue along the Tennessee River - Wallace met Pope along the south (left) bank of the Tennessee, and Sheridan joined them. Decided to river back, to a Region with a town, just before Mussel Shoals (the 'stop' sign in the river). Grierson had been kicked out of a rail-busting Region and could river to join them - so I had two Corps and two Cav stacks rivering to this Region.
havi anticipated, Forrest was waiting with four Divs and it was awful. Grierson got WIA and his Bde wiped out. Th rest exhausted and spent. Forrest still there for company. I put all on G/G and tried to river past the 'stop' sign.
Sheridan did, at least he got to his destination. Pope and Wallace went one region to the west.
So...is the stop sign predicated on stack size, or what?
