General War Order #2

Thu Apr 03, 2014 2:44 am

This event just fired for me (E Mar '62). I need to keep 48 rgts "adjacent" to D.C. or suffer -50 VPs. What constitutes "adjacent"? Does Athena only count rgts in Prince George, MD or does it also count rgts in adjacent regions like Alexandria? Since I'm already behind in VPs, I don't want to make it worse.

Spoiler Alert:

According to the Alias files, for purposes of event determination:

Regions "Around Washington:" Prince George MD, Fairfax VA, Montgomery MD, Charles MD, Anne Arundel MD

Regions in the "Vicinity of Richmond:" Spotsylvania, Caroline, King and Queen, Louisa, Buckingham, Amherst, Appomattox, Henrico, Charles City, New Kent, Williamsburg, Prince George, Richmond, Surry, Waverly, Dinwiddie, Camden (all in VA, Prince George is NOT Washington DC).

I believe it's, yes, truly adjacent.

With the recent additional Auto-Populate units plopped into Alex & DC, the need to count noses has been quite reduced. To tell you the truth, I've usually forgotten about it completely in two Turns - and have never seen an adverse message about it.

My experience with Athena in CW2 so far is that the Union player is going to lag on VPs, absolutely and incrementally, for quite a while; sometimes more, sometimes less. What you seek is the Big Turnaround. The BT comes from seizing and retaining Objectives, more than anything else. This takes time. When it happens, it's a sea change and something beautiful. Done right, the BT is Game Over for the Rebs.

So, I'm saying, don't worry. I'm here on the mound talkin' to ya - there's men on base in the second and one out. Relax. Pitch your game. You'll be OK if you're a player of any kind.

By regiment I think they mean element, right, so that's what, about 3 Divisions that need to stay adjacent to DC under this event?

Does anyone want to know when it ends (I looked it up)?

By regiment, they do mean element. Included in the count are the garrison elements of DC and Alexandria. According to the event text, the event ends in June 1862. I assume this means that in early July, you can move your troops.

The Events file says MaxDate = 1863/06/01 but I am not clear whether that means the penalty actually ends on that date or if that date is in the file because the event just has to have an attribute there and that it ends earlier due to some other event I didn't see.

One should always have the equivalent of at least an extra 3 Divisions entrenched in D.C., otherwise a dastardly furry critter will spoil your plans for re-unification.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

Thank you, Gentleman. I appreciate the replies. I'm glad adjacent regions count, since cramming everything into Prince George makes no sense. I'm also glad I need not abandon all my efforts elsewhere to run helter skelter back to D.C. just to please Ol' Man Lincoln. As GS states, I'll just keep pluggin' away.
