Order of units in the unit bar

Tue May 15, 2007 1:14 am

Can one vary the order in which units appear in the unit bar at the bottom of the screen? I ask because I always dread splitting apart a division, since I'm not quite sure where all its bits and pieces will end up. In particular, I wish the HQ units wouldn't revert to the far-right end of the unit bar, which means I have to scroll thru a dozen or more units to get to it.

Is there a way to change this behavior in the game's options or some such? Or should I just switch to a very high resolution to see more of the unit bar at once? (I'm currently at 1280x800.)

If need be, when working on a division (assembling, changing, etc), I usually split of the divisions or division-to-be in a seperate stack as a kind of "work area". When done, I simply merge it back into the stack it came from.

That's a very good idea. I'll try it. Thanks.

I might also try playing in a higher resolution. Does the game just adopt my desktop's resolution automatically?

I think it defaults to that, but you can override by running the AACW-settings-program (found either in your startmenu or in the main AACW-directory)

I don't think the guy was talking about stacks on the main map. He was talking about how when you have a few divisions (maybe) and some separate units in a container and you want to split one of the divisions, it's difficult to tell the separated units from the division from the ones that were already in the container.

As was suggested and the same thing that I do, under these circumstances I typically move the division I want to separate to a new tab and then do what I need to do, etc.

Does the game just adopt my desktop's resolution automatically?

I don't think it does, or at least you can change the resolution higher or lower than your desktop resolution.

by default it uses the desktop resolution. You can override the settings though.

This brings up another question that I am unable to check until later today. If you move a unit from one tab to a new tab, does that unit still keep its entrenchment level?

For example, you have a Corps with 3 Div's in an area for several turns and they have entrenched to a certain level. You want to move the Corps but want to leave behind 1 division so you move the division to a new tab for that area. Does that Division keep it's same entrenchment level?

Another question: You have an entrenched Corps (or other force) in an area that also contains an enemy force. You set the Corps to attack but issue no movement orders. Your Corps attacks the enemy unit but does not leave the area. Should your Corps be able to retain it's previous entrenchment level (not during the fight where it is set for attack but after it is over) since it is still in the same area. One would think that a large force that spent weeks or months building entrenchments only to leave them for a few days to fight a battle would not forget the entrenchments were there when the battle was done.

I am more concerned abouth this situation in regards to cities. If I have a well entrenched force in a city, and the enemy is laying seige to the city, if I launch an attack to drive the enemy away, will my units lose the entrenchment benefit and have to start over from scratch?
