Battle Result Questions - any comments?

Wed Nov 13, 2013 4:03 am

Battle text:
1) Hooker engage CSA in Fairfax day 8
2) CSA succeeding in retreating from battle in Fairfax day 8 hour 2
3) Battle summary Union defeat (though 2x losses and 5x routing make it seem like a big victory)
4) Hooker engage CSA in Fairfax day 13
5) Battle summary - Union victory (against smaller Cav force under J Jackson)

Post turn both big armies are in the region.

So CSA retreating then battle (or is it battle then retreating but battle says CSA won)? Assume former. So why battle fought if CSA retreating and Union on defence?

Also why did the battle screen say Union loss when they caused 2x more CSA casualties and 5x more CSA routing(1:1 battle with Union in level 4 entrenchments plus 50% more arty?

So after union loss Union didn't try to retreat out of area (which could make sense as bigger army with level 4 entrenchments. But then fight a battle with CAV arriving day 13. This makes sense IF first battle was union win or stalemate.

Or doesn't the battle screen win or loss narrative actually affect anything in the game? Its the players decision to retreat unless its an overwhelming loss?

We'll need a little more information to decipher what happened. Do you have screen shots of the affair? FYI, win or loss is decided by who retreats from the battle, not the amount of losses for either side, and if no retreat, stalemate.

There could have been multiple CSA stacks or multiple Union stacks in the area. I have also seen it where a side tries to retreat, but the battle continues (I think that the other side "catches" them when the battle starts, and it resumes - if this is the case, you won the battle, but some unit caught up with the retreating CSA troops, and continued the fight, losing in the process - probably a cav unit).

As the union troops are still there, the CSA cav probably came in on offensive posture, and started a fight. They could have tried to not fight, but got caught up by your forces, and ended up retreating.
Remember - The beatings will continue until morale improves.

(Hey, Durk. Since when did you start playing CW2?)

I believe a screen shot would help. Tell what your armies organization is like.
