Victory Conditions

Tue Oct 29, 2013 4:35 am

The manual states that the victory conditions for both sides can be found on the Objectives Page. However, in my current Union (me) versus AI, I can only see the Union victory conditions, not the defeat conditions nor anything relative to the Confederate victory conditions. There is also a not about placing the cursor over the upper left of the screen but this does nothing.

What am I missing?

Thanks

Sudden death victory conditions are achieve 200 NM, or force enemy NM under 25 NM (or under 40 NM for Union side at some point in the game).

If no-one accomplish these victory conditions, VP count at the end of the game determines the victor.

But, since US makes more VP/turn than CSA because they have more VP cities, in PBEM I would consider CSA victor if they did better than history.

It also, makes me wonder, if the AI values VP cities, maybe CSA AI "thinks", since I have less VP than US, I must go to offense, and US AI maybe "thinks", I have more VP, I 'll guard what I have.
Maybe that is the reason, why sometimes CSA is more aggressive than historically, and US less aggressive than historically. Of course, AI aggression can be adjusted by aggression slider in game options.

I can understand the CSA aggression.
In the beginning of the war, it's important as the CSA to exploit the small advantage of the better commanders the CSA has.
I try to inflict as much casualties as I can to get as much VP's as I can, and to dig in.
Usually, I inflict heavy losses to the Union before they get organised.
The first time I played as CSA, I defeated the Union by december 1861 due to low morale.
In my 2nd game, it's not going that well but still, I like the strategy of not letting the Union organise and picks it's targets.
I seize the initiative until the vast numbers of Union troops dictate otherwise.

Where are these values documented? They are not in the rule book nor are they on the screen where the manual says they are to be found. I am desperately trying to learn this game and engine - much thanks to the forum :) because the documentation has opportunity for improvement

Manual

Pg 14

Winning the Game
Automatic Victory (or defeat) is achieved when one side reaches its minimum
or maximum “National Morale” (NM) level. However, if the game ends without
reaching an Automatic Victory, the “Victory Points” (VP s) of each side determine
the winner. The side with more VP s wins the war and the level of victory is based
on the VP difference.

Page 15 manual

National Morale (NM )
For both sides in the conflict, the will to fight is tracked by their National Morale
(NM). Above and below certain levels, you instantly win or lose the game. These
thresholds will vary during the course of play depending on the political situation.
Important note: In 1864, the Union is more vulnerable to defeat through
morale loss, as the hard-line candidate, Lincoln must achieve significant
military victories in order to be re-elected President and continue the war.
Current NM is tallied in the upper left corner of the
main screen, inside the banners.
The victory and defeat thresholds of both sides are displayed in the Objectives
screen of the Strategic Atlas (shortcut: F9)(and as a tooltip in the upper left corner
of the screen).

Ace,

"Above and below certain levels, you instantly win or lose the game. These thresholds will vary during the course of play depending on the political situation."

I understand this but, "The victory and defeat thresholds of both sides are displayed in the Objectives screen of the Strategic Atlas (shortcut: F9)(and as a tooltip in the upper left corner of the screen);" this does not seem to be working for me. Please check and see if these thresholds are seen on your Objectives Screen - not on mine.

Thanks

Our current morale 100. Win level:200 - Defeat level: 25
