How to promote leaders??

Sun Oct 20, 2013 9:07 am

The leader promotion aspect of this game is VERY difficult to figure out. I dismiss Polk as an Army commander because I have more able generals who are currently corps commanders. Longstreet appears to have the highest seniority of my 2 star generals so I dismiss him as corps commander (on the following turn) thinking that I will now be able to promote him... but nothing... the promote button doesn't light up. So I go to Jackson to see if I can promote him: same thing. I thought you could promote leaders if you are willing to pay the political cost but I don't see any way to do this. This part of the game really needs clarifying and improving! There should be a leadership/ command organisation screen (in the ledger) where you can sort generals by rank/ seniority/ ability and promote/ dismiss from there.

Perhaps nobody has earned their promotion yet....
You can only promote someone if they have improved their seniority by 4 points, they only do this through doing well in combat though.

"Top hats will not be worn in the Eighth Army" Field-Marshal Viscount Montgomery of Alamein K.G.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that. Is there a "window" of time during which a leader can be promoted after a success? I remember one general who had a couple of brilliant successes back-to-back. His promote button was only lit up for a couple of turns. Now it has disappeared.

If it's like ACW1, generals available for promotion lose 1 seniority every turn they're not promoted.

Just lost my opportunity to promote 2 generals after winning a big battle because the process is so over-complicated right now. Move this general out of the stack... then this one and so on... come on!! This is making something straightforward WAY too complex.... and spoiling the game. Promotion is like a reward for doing well in the game... now I've lost my reward.... This needs to be fixed. Why not handle promotions with a screen on the ledger??
