Q's

Mon Oct 14, 2013 4:06 pm

1) How is this game? I'm used to playing grand strategy games (HOI3, Commander:The Great War) but I have had some problems with AGEOD games in the past (e.g., The Great War - it was awful, they didn't even have the map the right way up!), so will I likely enjoy this game, or will it annoy me?

2) How replayable is the game? I see there are foreign powers in the game - is it possible to bring Spain/Mexico/France/UK into the war through diplomacy? What happens if you do? Do you get amphibious campaigns fought over Cuba and that kind of thing?

3) How's the AI? Does it challenge you?

1.

Its a different game engine and this one has been improved for almost ten years and is only getting better going forward.

2.

Very, especially if you play against humans.

This is also just released so it will get better fast with patches coming out. If you find something in the game you feel is wrong or could be better just post in to these boards and make your case, there is a possibility that you get it included in a patch.

3.

Im getting a pretty good show from the AI with the new patch. :)

And foreign interventions? How often do you see the Mexicans/Spanish/British/French coming in to the war? What can you do to make them come in?

You have the options to give territorial and commercial concessions to France and Britain.
The intervention possibility is displayed constantly in a meter, if your morale and over all performance is better than the opponents the meter will move your way.

So doing well in the game as CSA is the way to do it and some luck also.
It is fairly realistic, that means that if you get them to join the fight, you might be doing so well you dont really need them.

I dont know what they will do, where they will land and so on.

If it happens in PBEM game you get to call a friend and ask him to play those factions.

  1. Good, really good.
One of the great plus of the AGEOD games is that they uses the WEGO system.
The Great War isn't really comparable to the other AGEOD games. Incidentally, the gold version of this is not so bad.
  2. Alone the size of the campaign, resulting in the replay by options to choose another way to go.
This alone results in a high replay value.
  3. There are players who are very satisfied with the AI. Also, in some review you can find laudatory words about the AI.
You can also find some players who say the AI is terrible.
I personally find it good, I know worse.
But personally I wish there will come excessively working on the AI - an AI can never be too challenging for me.

Bottom line, I would say if you are interested in the American Civil War and when you play strategy games with pleasure, then you may not pass AGEOD Civil War II.

Not very often. It happens occasionally, but don't count on getting it every game.
Remember - The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I'm going to get RUS (which is cheap right now) and see how I like it - if it turns out OK then I'll probably come back and buy CWII as well. One last question - is Spain in the game? Can you bring them into the war?

I am the very happy owner of BOA 2,happy for CW2(probably this is going to be upgraded upwards)and the not so happy owner of PON(despite that it is a great idea with even greater potential done however during the dark times of PARADOX-ageod coordination).
My opinion is that Ageod is one of the best out there and well really look forward for the future.
OK to good AI and very re-playable.
