Help with forces screen, please!

Sun Oct 06, 2013 5:46 pm

I am struggling with the new forces screen. Is this the replacement for the 'roster' in ACW? If so, how do I find a specific general or unit. The buttons at the top seem to be counter intuitive. It seems that one must hide everything he doesn't want to see. What am I missing?

One has to get used to it, but I found it easier now to check with unit, general, etc. are active, where are my strongest units, etc. So, you wanna loacate a commander? Easy.

The new Forces List (new but existing since 2 games IIRC) has also a button (see the leftmost button with 2 arrows parting away?) which is calling the New New Units List :)

Is there a way to hide units which are locked from the forces list? Maybe its a bug but I tried the buttons included at the top and it keeps listing forces/units which I cannot move. It would be very helpful to see this so I can trim the list down to units that I can actually do something with. Also, I know that the unit list will show the current action of the unit (at least if its moving anyway). It would be very, very helpful to show if a unit was given the 'sentry for 1 turn' action so I don't have to revisit that unit again to check. AFAIK the unit list does not show 'sentry status'.

You can hide units by clicking on the lockpad button, either on the forces screen or the units screen.

As for one turn sentry, the good practice is to browse through all your units with space (when nothing selected). If there is a unit to browse, then you'll select the stack (and you should see the button with a boot at the bottom right). If you sentry one turn a stack with space (when in selection) and then unselect it, it won't be browsed again when you resume the cycling operations. Not sure I'm crystal clear ;)

Another excellent thing which was not present in AACW1 is to go to strategic atlas F7 key, and to click on hide stacks with locked units icon. You now have grand strategic map with only mobile stacks shown, and if you click on a stack, the game opens the main map and center on the stack :)

Just to be clear, truth in advertising and all that, even though the forces screen has many good features and improvements, there is no way to find generals by NAME (unless the tab reflects that name).

IMHO, adding a name column would be an upgrade and improvement. :p ompom:
