Building infantry

Thu Sep 19, 2013 6:59 pm

I'm building troops and I can't see the units details (attack/defense/movements, etc) to be able to decide which type of troops should I build.
Did I miss something ?

the tooltip will give you an idea of power which is a rough guide to overall effectiveness. Remember that terrain matters so less 'powerful' units in the right terrain will dominate - eg alpini units in the Dolomites. Also regulars lose cohesion in poor terrain (esp up to the 1870s techs), so will fight badly regardless of notional power.

Remember also that some techs improve cohesion, defensiveness etc for all units, so its not just the data shown on the unit type

Combat values in the AGE system are chance to hit (varies with range), damage as killed/disrupted and chance to avoid being hit. You need to look at the detail tooltip for this.

Ah, you cry how does this fit together? Well the AAR has a number of posts that will explain these mysteries, including a very detailed look at the combat system.
AJE The Hero, The Traitor and The Barbarian
PoN Manufacturing Italy; A clear bright sun
RoP The Mightiest Empires Fall
WIA Burning down the Houses; Wars in America; The Tea Wars

You can see the various values of the elements within the unit. After you select a unit to build, you will see the elements on the right side in a vertical list. If you click on one of the elements, you can see it's stats.

AGEOD dosen't use an attack vs. defense value, they use other information (as per what Loki says above).
Remember - The beatings will continue until morale improves.

OK, excellent ! This is exactly what I was looking for.

I'm now reading the AAR for more details. It's well written and I'm enjoying the beginning :-)
