Forming a Corps

Tue Sep 17, 2013 10:43 pm

Well, it seems i am too stupid to see the obvious...?

I started the Grand Campaign (April 1861) and its now end of July 1861 but i am still not able to form Corps. I read in the manual how to form a Corps (2 or 3 Star Leader with units are selected, in the same province as the Army), but the option is still greyed out...

Any hints what i am missing here?

The corps can be formed from March 1862 onwards. Initial civil war armies had not implemented corps command structures in their armies. Just ignore the button until then. Hope this helps.

May be a tooltip can be added to explain the entry date of corps (and divisions) on the corp&division creation button.

There was the same limitation in the first civil war game and i remembered raging a lot against the corp system while trying to created corp at the start of the campaign for hours.

It is probably a major newbie problem.

That should be told in the manual and in the tooltip.
If there are more twarting features, it will make new players flee...

I remember MISSING the notification and going several months before I finally experimented and found out I could start forming them!

Well historically CSA formed corps after Seven days battles and just prior to Shiloh. USA pretty much did the same. If you are familiar with history, that should be your reference dates when the corps would become available.

A message will pop up about corps formation as a reminder of this (next patch)

Yes, it is more work for devs than just make games for connoisseurs.

Try to convince the designers. They have not said it, but it seems to me they are afraid that it will confuse new players as much as this corps issue did :)

From March 1862, not sure if it is early or late March.

Yep. As this screenshot shows Foster is given full assault orders but button is greyed out. I’m also having issues with income, so it may be my game is corrupted if others are not seeing these issues too. Here’s the thread I posted about income at Matrix:

And future corps leader must be within range of an army. This range is dependant on the strategic rating of the army leader.

To check the range, select the army and press the "shift" key : the command range of the army is then displayed.

Yeah everything is as it should be for a corps to be formed as this screenshot shows. Additionally Kearny is stacked with the army itself and still has a greyed out button.

If you mouse over the Create Corp button it should give you possible reasons why you can't form a corps.

Kearney should be in seperate stack from the army stack to be able to form corps. Enable corps button makes current stack a corps stack. He cannot make an army stack a corps stack, can he?

No one can form a corp period, I stacked them together to show it all in a single screenshot. In or out of the stack its greyed out.

Yeah, Jim's right, corps formation is bugged. In my current game it's late June 1862 and I have 2 ready-to-go corps under Lee in Virginia and A.S. Johnston in KY, and neither of their corps can be formed. The corps box is greyed out. In the attached screen you can see that Polk is two star, force capable, and is even in the same region as the army, so no out of range penalties involved... and still no corps-forming ability.

Sorry for the miss, a last minute change in an event created this error.

We will fix it asap, with a quickfix if allowed to do so.

I have encountered this bug as well. I have the latest beta patch installed but it doesn't seem fixed yet.
For the moment, I don't really need it, pounding the south with my 2000+ and 3000+ power armies :)

The latest patch fixes this 100% if you start a new game.

Hmm so I need to start a new game to fix this? Is there a way to get that fixed in my current save game?

Yes there is, but it requires a little modding on your part. If you are up to it, I can explain you how.

I wouldn't mind trying my hand at fixing the save game.
It would be quite helpful, thanks !
