Problem with the Army of Northeastern Virginia

Fri May 04, 2007 7:56 pm

In my last two April 61 campaign starts (under 1.02 and 1.02a) I have had a problem with the Army of NE Virginia. When I click on the counter for it, it has three elements -- McDowell, the Army HQ, and an artillery unit. Even though the unit is unlocked, I cannot get it to break down into its component parts, like it did in previous versions. As such, I have been unable to rebuild it into the Army of the Potomac, or remove McDowell from command and install McClellan. When I tried dismissing McDowell as army commander and replacing him with McClellan, McClellan simply became another element in the counter. Also, when I then put McDowell back in charge, the McClellan counter came out, but then had McDowell's name on it, whilst McClellan's name was now associated with McDowell's picture.

Any ideas on what is going on here? One thing I have noticed is that when I was trying to break the NE Virginia unit down into its component parts, the Army HQ element was not at full strength. Even though I have an army HQ replacement bought, the counter was inside Alexandria, and in passive mode, I have not been able to bring the HQ element up to full strength. Could the fact the HQ element is not at full strength be the reason I am having trouble breaking the counter down, or reforming as a new army HQ?

I have the exact same problem, only it's with the AoP HQ, Beauregard, and R.E. Lee. I can't seem to seperate Beauregard from the Army HQ --- I can get Lee to take command of the AoP, but then Beauregard appears as an element within the Army structure. Seperating it out, I end up with Beauregard re-named as Robert E. Lee!

Perhaps, since Beauregard starts out the game as an Army commander, somehow he's being seen as the Army unit itself, and not as an Officer? I dunno, but I want him out and assigned to a Corps, and Lee in charge of the Army --- without having to blow another Army HQ to do it. I defenitely don't need two army HQ's running around Virginia...

Anybody else having this problem?

Then there was one:

And then they were twins:

Indeed, there was a bug on both armies. Please download 1.02e. Hope things will calm down now :)

The update can't retroactively fix the problem on both armies though...

Roger that. I decided to let it go --- and then it corrected itself the next turn.

Thanks Pocus. You guys are far and away the best for product support and customer responsiveness. With most of your competitors, we would have had to wait 3 months for a fix in a 'comprehensive patch'. I really appreciate how you guys get all over any identified problems and fix them immediately.

....I really think Pocus is chained to the computer...so he can only go to bed for a nap here and there and get something to eat. Hmmm....maybe someone comes by with a dvd and some wine from Provence and cheese....so every once in a while he can relax...for a minute or two. :hat:
