Profiler D.Log Error, posted solutions aren't working

Wed Jul 17, 2013 2:37 am

So all of a sudden, my game is completely failing. Clean installs, turning off windows UAC, nothing is working. I had error logging on the last time it happened and all logs are attached. If anyone has a solution/can find the problem let me know. Thanks in advance.

I see nothing obvious except these sound index errors. Sadly I'm in a hurry with CW2, so perhaps a PON player can check your turn and see if there is a crash. If there is, then I'll try to find sometime inspecting your saved game.

Here is my USA saved game where I first encountered the problem. Not sure how helpful it is since the problem doesn't appear to be isolated to the save. It is happening with other saved games and even happens when I tried to start a new game, couldn't get past turn 1. Thanks once again to anyone who helps out with this.

So got the problem solved. Ended up moving the game from the steam folder on my HDD to my SSD C drive and then running it setting it to automatically run as admin. I don't normally put things on the SSD other than the OS and necessary plugins, but it appears I'll have to for PON. This does completely solve the problem.

The error message I'm getting after the game exits reads as "Exception EInOutError dans le module PON.exe dans 000DB7ED. Erreur E/S 32." Hope that helps.

I was able to load and process the late August turn. This was on an older version 1.03c. I did not encounter any issues.

Thanks for checking it out Jim. I have been able to since process the turn as well. However, the game usually breaks soon after. So far I have been able to play a max of five turns in a row before the error starts up again. Usually, verifying the game cache with steam, thus reverting to vanilla 1.03 and resetting my system allows me to play for a few turns before the problem resurfaces.

Try verifying the game with Steam, and then copying the game from the Steam folders, and running the copy.

Wish it was that simple Sagji. Tried it and the game functioned then for 12 turns. Then proceeded to give me the same error.

Are you sure this is the same error? I/O error comes from (for PON) a lack of write access. Windows or an AV can prevent the game from writing files and logs.

@Pocus. I am not sure these are errors are the same. What I am sure of is that both messages come together 100% of the time. When the game crashes I get the Profiler D.Log error in game. Then when I click ok and the game screen closes, remaining on screen is the I/O error. The errors always appear together for me. As far as the lack of write access goes, I have turned off my Windows account controls and have the game set to always run with admin rights to avoid that problem. If there is anything else that can be done to avoid the problem I'm all ears.

@Jim. I keep the files in the default folder for Steam. I purchased the game through steam and have always run it through steam. It is only recently where the game has decided to not work. I have tried moving the files and such to my C drive (solid state) from the D drive (regular HDD where I keep everything including steam). This set up has worked for months until about 2 weeks ago now.

Unfortunately, you are beyond my limited knowledge of the game and your errors. Sorry I can not help you.

Jim, thank you for trying. I just wish the game worked so I can play. I really love PON and the depth it provides its players. It has been my sustenance through the past few months as I've been getting ready for the bar exam. Ending a long day of studying with an hour or two of PON was always a big morale booster. With the exam a few days away and stress mounting, I just want my stress release valve back.

You could try adding an exception to your Anti-Virus software's real time protection for the VGN folder in the same place as the exe. Make sure it is the real time exception not the regular scan exception. The RT scan very briefly locks the file while it scans it very very occasionally this causes an issue to the app trying to use the file.

@Sagji. Just tried it. Didn't help. Thank you for the suggestion.
