That is an odd error. I will check out the turn.

I ask since you know - how exactly you go about let them go AI? Remove the TRN file, or change a setting for the country? And then how do you get them back?

Someone posted about deleting the .trn file and that would take care of it, but that did not work since I ended up getting new trn files anyways.

This is what I find in out z.opt. I don't know whether "take over" means it does so each turn there are no orders or a more permanent takeover.

GameAcronym = Conflict in Europe

sysBackupNum = 1
rulNoTurnFileForAI = 0 // 1 supresses trn files for AI (faster but player can't take over)
aiDoTakeOver = 0 // 1 for the AI to take over nations without orders

The manual (p. 16) says "To enable the AI to take over any abandoned human turns during hosting, add the command aiDoTakeOver in any .opt file and set it to true (false (0) is the default, meaning no AI orders are issued for the human player)."

If you've missed it, 1.04 RC2 came out today in case it may be worth using in CiE.

I really hope this game makes all the way to the end without people losing interest :P it will be very interesting to see how it ends up, i suspect with a powerful USA and very strong Prussia. You guys should post up a map of the current world to this forum, let people who are skimming over the game have a look at the current state of affairs. Keep it going guys! :D

There were three turns without ord files submitted. A group of us decided to put Japan to AI so there won't be any issues. We have no idea if you are looking at the turns or abandoning the country. At the very least submit something.

Edit: Early February 1879. Will keep using 1.03d.

There were three turns I had nothing to submit as I was waiting the Korean occupation to complete. Almost same story as Greece, I have done my moves, waiting for Russia to finish this war. In any way, do not take initiatives: 3 turns is not so much. Many other nations in the past have not submitted orders for almost a week or so. In fact, the soft limit we had discussed in the past (search the old forums) was for a week.

In any case, do ask with a message before setting the AI on as its operations are potentially disastrous if it is applied in an intermittent way.

Late February 1879. Should we upgrade to 1.4 RC2 and try that out?

My vote is NO for the PBEM game given past patch problems and the serious or fatal disruption to the game that could result.

YES, for single player since we can roll SP back to old saves and the last version.

I agree with Sir Garnet. We need to make sure it is stable before we jump the gun (we have had problems in the past with patches).

Ok, fine with me. Early March 1879.

BTW, I will not be available to process the turn tomorrow, Sunday. So, someone will need to take over that day.

I have reinstalled carefully, but to 1.03e, not d.

Regarding the files, we should evaulate all the differences in the Shipyards script.

Skipped Turn

Mon Jun 24, 2013 8:38 am

Hmmm, assuming it is just a matter of putting all the dropbox files in the CIE save folder, opening POR, say, clicking execute, and saying yes when the game asks about handing unfiled turns over to the AI . . . and if no one else speaks up . . . I will try to process the turn at the usual time Monday, meaning we shall have lost exactly one day (on the 7th day, the players rested) and no one is confused.

I have 1.03e as mentioned above.

I am not ruining anything. If Japan goes down, the nations that allied against Japan will go down with it. It is you that actually ruin your nations. Japan has nothing to lose anymore. :)

(there was no "early expansion", the expansion was completely in par with the pace of the game and its alternate reality capabilities. As a matter of fact, given that we didn't stop early enough the colonial actions we might even say it was a VERY LATE expansion.)

You forget the game is long.... veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery long. :D

Now, let's play!

Kensai, let's try to keep some sort of division between IC and OOC discussions. Such a clear division is essential to prevent unnecessary confusion and drama.

Most of my post in the diplomacy topic was IC, only my final comment - clearly defined as such - was OOC. It is France that feels the demands of Japan are bizarre in the context of the current war, while it is Spinoza suggesting you might be throwing away much of the progress your avatar nation has made over the past several hundred turns by making your avatar nation responding with bizarre demands to a very reasonable peace offer. I have the feeling you are doing this over a grudge you have, as a player, against the turn several nations took over Japan's actions against China, which you perceived as being 'arcade'. For one, you are replying to an IC post by France with a series of OOC-replies, which indeed suggests you took it a bit too personal. Of course I might be wrong, but the fact you keep replying to this OOC, stressing how 'unhistorical' this all is, does suggest your actions as Japan are mainly based on this grudge over the course the game has took. Of course entrenching on the home islands is a perfectly legitimate strategy for Japan, but then again your demands had more in common with what you wanted as player (no 'unrealistic' interventions, no working together with Germany etc.) than what would be in the best interest of your avatar nation.

I sincerely hope I am wrong, but I don't think it is beneficial to the fun or immersion of the game when players base their entire strategy on a grudge.

Yes, thankfully, you are wrong. :)
But I am really pleased you wrote such a post so players like bjfagan and lukasberger who (more or less his own words) "play as if the avatar nations hold grudges and feel like humans" can read it. These are the players that were not open to diplomacy. There is no grudge by my part, other than the complete conversion of this game in a travesty of unhistorical and bizarre confrontations. I simply play along, what's the issue?

Japan playing to the final man* is totally consistent to the Japanese credo and philosophy and makes perfect sense to the alternate arcade reality as the players' actions have morphed. I hope you don't disallow me that, do you? :)

I am in love with the game, not with my avatar nation. I care about the stability of the game so calling me "Whollaborg" just because I won't do negotations against these surreal developments, is pretty much insulting. Thus, please, less talk, more play. IN the game if possible.

(*moreover there are some technical reasons of insistence to a war as Japan has a great war resilience due to its authoritarian style of government which will be advantageous in a long conflict of attrition against republics like USA and France which when in continuous wars will see their NM plummet... USA already suffers from serious contentment issues in some of its regions, perhaps sooner than later its own population may force it to disengage)

Not even remotely my own words. And wasn't telling you that I play that way, was telling you how others play. I was trying to educate you, since you clearly don't understand how many people play the game.

My Austria has been nearly Japan's only friend throughout all this, along with Jim's GB and to a lesser extent nemethand's Russia. I told you what was happening, that you had made a lot of enemies, warned you repeatedly that you should back off, due to my affinity for you and your Japan.

I've worked behind the scenes to hold France, the US and Germany back from attacking you, and to urge moderation once they did.

I spent half the day one day last week trying to explain to you what was going on and back you off the ledge you seemed to have jumped out onto.

I also protected your Greece from the wrath of GB at the beginning of the Ottoman war, and risked the possibility of war with them to do so. Which was done purely out of altruism and friendship, with no benefit to Austria or me. In fact I damaged Austria's relationship with Gb in order to do so.

But I won't do the same for your Japan, won't hurl my nation on it's own, without any treaties with Japan, without having been consulted by you or having had you request protection before you began your mad dash though Asia, won't join you without allies, in a World War where I'd fight nations I have no quarrel with. Because I choose not to protect your aggressively expansionist and diplomatically delusional avatar nation that is viewed by many major nations as a pariah and won't expose Austria to the same level of animosity Japan has generated, you repeatedly insult me, mock me, misquote me and generally act like I'm the one attacking and insulting you.

I really didn't understand at first why your Japan has made so many enemies. It's now become perfectly clear to me, given how you treat your friends.

Wow, this exact situation except for the USA when Japan started a war with Russia and Germany. The USA was friends with Japan then, and wanted an independent and strong Japan to balance the Pacific. However, because the USA didn't declare war unilaterally on Russia and Germany for no other reason than Japan also did, the USA was informed it was a "traitor and to be treated as such." All agreements (supply, passage, commercial) were then unilaterally cancelled by Japan. That was when the USA and Japan ceased being friends and the USA moved closer to China. This seems a natural course for the USA to take given the circumstances, I don't understand the confusion about where the USA's loyalties lie, or actions coming to the aid of an ally under attack.

I am also confused about a supposedly friendly Vezina controlled France and Kensai controlled Japan. If my memory serves, Vezina's France at some point declared war on Kensai's Japan, although I cannot for the life of me remember the exact circumstances. I only remember private messages from Vezina's France expressing extreme frustration with Kensai's Japan and giving the USA (as France's ally) a head's up that he was declaring war on Japan.
