Paradox AGEOD Forum Migration

Wed Feb 27, 2013 1:46 pm

Hi, just noticed on the paradox forum that there are plans to migrate their AGEOD forum over here. I have an active PON AAR on the paradox forum are there plans to add an AAR sub forum here?

Edit: Thanks for your then editing. Someone who didn't know could believe Ageod forum would move to Paradox.

It seems the forum will be archived at Paradox, so you better get your stuff from it while it is reachable.

Hi Pocus, as mentioned above I have an active PON AAR on the paradox forum are there any plans to create a PON AAR forum here? Obviously I would like to migrate it here and continue if possible.

Also I do you know when they plan to archive the forum?

I guess this (from the matrix forum) may help:

After many weeks of discussions, Ageod (http://www.ageod.com) is very pleased to announce that Pride of Nations and Rise of Prussia are coming home. From 1st March Paradox Interactive have surrendered their commercial rights to sell any Ageod game including these two flagship titles.

As many may know, Ageod joined the Slitherine Group in January this year. Both Pride of Nations and Rise of Prussia were built on the AGEOD engine and were released during Ageod’s period of time with Paradox and since leaving Paradox and until joining the Slitherine Group their future has been uncertain. “We now have to tell you that the future is bright!”, says Philippe Thibaut, Director of Ageod “and to celebrate this move we can announce that we are working on a patch to upgrade both titles. This will only be available through our Group outlets”.

“Our Policy will be to continue to fully support our developers and their titles at realistic price points, in order that they can continue to bring to users quality turn based strategy games” says JD McNeil, C.E.O. of the Slitherine Group . “This involves the effort and work necessary to support, update and improve our group games as and when this is needed, even long after initial release. So rest assured that we will continue to discuss and engage with our audience, on how and where to patch and add new features where possible”.

As a consequence of this deal, the Ageod forum will be the place to discuss these games and all aspects of future releases, updates and news

Thanks Pocus great news on both the AAR subforum and that Paradox has surrended their rights to PON! Looking forward to the next patch which will hopefully make this already fantastic game a true gem.

not sure this affects the AARs (but I am worried), but there is a message on the Paradox forum that anything on their main PoN pages will no longer be accessible in a week ... Since I'm sitting on a 28 page ongoiing, rather fun, PoN AAR over there, I'd really like somewhere to shift it to ...

All the PON forum at Paradox will be archived (disappear from view), so yes everybody must get back all his content.

This seems a bit petulant of Paradox. On the other hand Matrix claiming Paradox has "surrendered" their rights seems a bit inflammatory.

Some of us have games from both publishers so this behaviour does us no favours.

I agree completely, I have (& greatly enjoy) games from all 3 publishers and intend to carry on doing so, but at the moment am a wee bit annoyed with Paradox and very afraid of losing my PoN AAR. At least I have most of the original text and images so can rebuild it if I need to.

I have waved my magic wand (so to speak). Let's see if it has any effect.

well I've had this:

I'm really sorry to bother you over this. Its just a number of us are heavily involved across the 2 companies and I suspect our only interest is in the games and the material we have generated around those games, not in terms of corporate ownership and licences.

So its now clear that 'archiving' the main AGE-related forums means their effective closure, which is probably a bigger problem around Pride of Nations than any of the others. There is a wealth of material there (scripts and events as well as mods) that was never placed on the AGEOD PoN site as the PI site was always the primary source (unlike say Rise of Prussia which was only very limited on PI). There is a particular consequence of this, in that there is no space on the AGEOD forum for AARs (I guess the original deal was that this went to PI?), so we can't rescue and migrate the material at the moment.

I realise this is utterly selfish but can we have longer to sort out the situation with the PoN AARs than just a week?

Purely personally I find myself in an uncomfortable position. I started as someone who only played Paradox games, bought Rise of Prussia on the strength of the links and some AARs and have found myself increasingly playing AGE-games. This is not a comment on the PDS approach but simply that I play a lot of MP and find the various 'turn-processing' game systems far easier when faced with limited time and the problems of ensuring a group are on line at the same time. I guess, also totally irrelevant to any one else, I invested a lot of time and effort in making the AGEOD AAR sub-forum work (so have a wierd sense of some responsibility).

Sorry, this rambles.

My key request is for a bit of a stay of execution over the AARs so that AGEOD can get something set up and we can sort ourselves out. I realise I have no basis to expect any change to whatever policy has been agreed, but this situation is not the doing of the various individuals who happen to share a liking for the products of both companies.

thanks

Roger

I think that we could let the AAR's stick around a little longer. We need to remove the regular forums however as the IP rights went back to the developers. It is a natural order of things, and to my knowledge this transition is made in good understanding between the companies.

We can not host material for games which we do not own however. Both because the rights to the IP is no longer ours and AGOED might like to take control of their own things. But also because we are releasing many games and must make space for the games that are actually ours.

I will not remove the AAR forums for a while. But I will make it read only so no new contributions can be made. To salvage the AAR's I can only advice to copy paste the material into some other storage.

Don't hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

Best Regards
Björn

Well, it gives you a bit more time to salvage things. Not ideal but I guess they let the lawyers loose on each other.

That's a nice move from Björn.

I don't think you should take 'surrender' offensively here, this is just a way of saying the rights passed from a company to another, and they both agreed on the deal... Indeed surrender in our wargamer's jargon has not the same meaning :)

Having some of those AARs transplanted over here is one way (in fact, probably the way) to get me posting here. :)
