Restoring saves

Well...

I was trying to review old saves during my present campaign to try to make an animated .gif AAR.

Now I find I can't get back to my present turn.

I'm on Backup24 (Nov 1862) and I copy and pullout the three files (CSA.trn, USA.trn and .hst) and when I go to the game, the latest save that shows for the campaign is April 1861

By backing up on the saves, have I overwritten the files for over a year of game play and if not, why doesn't the turn from the Backup24 files not show up when I go to load the game?

alas I have to say that if you roll back your turns, you can no longuer return to your latest turn, like in a VCR.
If you want to keep your current game, you have to copy it first, to do so you ctrl-click on the save button, to save it under a new name. That done, you can roll back your turns, knowing you have made a copy. Sorry for the misunderstanding that make you lose your campaign.

I've tried this before and i have just updated to 1.02.

I find that i can rename a save name but only to the extend that is forms a new folder named what i rename it too. It doesnt actually save any thing there, no files. If u try save after doing this it goes back to saving by old name.

Only way i found i can get it to work is if, i after renaming, u take a turn. Then it will save to renamed name.
it suppose to be like that? having to wait a turn and not being able to make duplicates of same turn?

rename just does that yes, but you can save under a new name by going to the main map and then doing a ctrl click on the save button, at the top right (you got a tooltip too there). I just retried and everything is duplicated, including backups, without locks. Hope it works like that on your computer.

Ok i found my problem just not the solution yet.
When ever the program makes the new folder its given read only status.
So when trying to save the file its blocked by the operating system. What is really funny is if i remove the attribute its back on if i open it again, even if i just dechose it. So i cant remove it. 3rd party programs and dos doesnt see the read only the attributes . Toyed around abit and it only seems to happen to folders that A-acw makes or possibly in similar fashions. If i make folders my self, its fine. Ill toy some more and report back.

I have had this same problem renaming folders under WinXP. You cange the attribute as you have by unclicking the Read Only box and then the box comes back on with a gray checkmark. Sometimes I reboot and it is OK and sometimes not, but I eventually can get rid of the Read Only feature.

I think this is a WinXP bug and/or safety/security precaution, and it is a pain in the buttocks.
