AGEOD should make a game on the Chinese Civil War!!!

Tue Feb 19, 2013 3:30 am

I think this would be a great scenario for a game. They could have two main campaigns, one from 1927 to 1937, and one from 1946 and 1950! AGEOD could also through in the Taiping Rebellion and the First Sino-Japanese War as extra goodie scenarios. Although I dont think it would be practical to do the Second Sino-Japanese War.

I agree! I suggested this in another thread but the idea didn't seem too popular. I'm sure others have thought of it before too, so I guess there must be a good reason that the idea doesn't stay.

I think if we each send AGEOD a McDonald's Big Mac then they will have to make this game.

Important: When ordering a Big Mac, it is important to remember that the picture is enlarged to show detail. No, it is never as big as you hope, and yes, eating it will still kill you.

I think it would be difficult to do this scenario though, becuase AGEODs never done an east asian map. I dont know for sure but i feel like it would be very hard to make an accurate map of China set during the framework of the game

I just think the problem is time to do that instead of doing another one.
Im sure that could be an interesting game but not so sure if it could be a game with market.

It would not sell well and the Chinese government is very touchy about this topic - so forget that it would be ever officially on sale in China.
Also look here, not really popular with existing AGEOD customers:

Touchy? More like threats of waterboarding AFTER the lawsuits. In the end you'd probably be forced to change the nationalists to the North Koreans and portray Mao as a misunderstood national hero who just wanted to bring gummy bears and free healthcare to his people.

There's an interesting boardgame about the Chinese Republic, including the 2nd Sino-Chinese War called "Warlords: China in Disarray, 1916 - 1950" (1986). It's made by an Australian developer - and here comes the clou - named "Panther Games": Dave O'Connor (Arjuna) et al. who switched over now doing a fine computer game, the "Command Ops Series".

I'd love to see such a game made by Ageod. But honestly, I think this would be another volunteer-associated project like RUS, AJE, BOR or SCW.
Problems is, too few battles in 1927-1937 to make it an AGE style operational game. As such maybe a Long March game somehow could work.
But for representing the essence of the era arguably you'd need a healthy dose of character driven dirty party politics & backstabbing like in "Kremlin" and "Junta"(with Shanghai as Junta capital) along with monthly turns.

Unfortunately, the Age engine, as it is now (?!), would need an overhaul to do this. And given the rather exotic & touchy theme, such a game probably never will be made.

Best regards

A agree that there could be problem with doing the long march, however that was just a single episode of the war. There were many other campaigns during that war that would very much within the framework of an ageod game. For example the Northern Expedition (1926–1928) could be very easily made into a scenario, also various periods in the Encirclement Campaigns (1927–1937). The whole Chinese Civil War from 1946 to 1950 would constitute a very detailed and elaborate campaign in which to base the game around. And like I said before, ageod could also use the First Sino-Japanese war, the Taiping rebellion, and maybe even the Japanese Invasion of Manchuria as extra scenarios to add some flavor on the side. Granted the idea of a conflict in china may not be the "most" popular, but the Chinese Civil War definitely fulfills all the requirements that these past Ageod games posses. I think it would be dum not to make a game on this conflict.
