Leader sometimes stuck when moving

Thu Feb 14, 2013 4:35 pm

Just bought BOR - great game! Love the AEGOD games

I sometimes get this odd thing where I tell a leader to move and he goes nowhere despite having no issues (cohesion good, no slow troops, etc). The message box says something to the effect that "X leaders was blocked by forces in the area" but military control is 100% mine and it happens multiple times unless I take another route (ie. move to a friendly area from which to enter the zone). I find it happens most often (maybe only though I haven't tested rigorously) when I am beseiging an area (military control of area but not of the city) and want to move directly to a zone with an enemy leader.

More than anything I want to know if its a bug or a design that I am missing.

That is working as designed. If you have a large army with supply wagons, you are not supposed to bypass fortifications, they are blocking your movement. It doesn't seem so logical today, but it was a strategic must in Ancient times.

I had this yesterday. It seems forces can be blocked by front as well which doesn't seem to be explained anywhere?

Cheers,
Chris

Other related factors are the detection or not of "stealthy" units. The enemy may have such units (ex irregulars) that may not be detected by your army depending on it's detection value (cavalry, mainly), but which can even so, block you
Also, your posture/ROE. A force in passive and with avoid combat can sometimes "slip by" an enemy unchecked.

The message seems to be generated by the strGroupBlockByFront command. I can't find any information about this.
Can anyone shed any light?

It hppened to me today, and it turned out that it was caused by new supply wagons that had not yet been filled. Try removing the supply wagons and see if it can move.

Another thing that happened last night was that Caesar was in a city that was being besieged by a much weaker army, and I was unable to find a way to get him to attack or get out until the besieging unit went away.

If he was activated you can always attack by moving his stack out of the city (just drag and drop) into the same region with attack orders. If he is not active it is still often for the best to move a superior army out of a structure when under siege (otherwise there can be a chance that the stack will surrender when under siege).
Still interested as to how strGroupBlockByFront works if anyone can enlighten. The problem I had with the blocked by front message wasn't due to new supply.

Cheers,
Chris
