Merging Units

Wed Apr 25, 2007 6:39 pm

How do you merge units with exactly the same type of elements? What I mean is, if I have two Militia Bde's in a city, each with one militia element, how do I merge those two units into one Militia Bde with two elements?

I can't find it in the manual. We were able to do this in BoA, but maybe not AACW????

I don't think this is possible(yet?). However I do recall seeing something about merging units that have missing elements in common

Merging units has me a bit puzzled too. When you select more than one unit in the unit screen and the hover your mouse over the join button, you'll get a tooltip describing the possibilities for combinations by outlining the organization of each of the units selected.

However, a militia brigade gets listed as having at most 2 militia elements, but when I select 2 single-element militia units, I can't merge them.

Oh, and I'm looking forward to the whole brigade-division buggy-thingy getting fixed :)

you can't merge 2 brigades which have at most one element each. You can only refill one brigade with another, not increase above its maximum capacity.

In my case, I'm fairly sure the tooltip said that the brigades could at most hold two elements. However, I don't have the game in front of me right now, so I can't confirm this and might be remembering incorrectly.

Is there a way to merge elements that are within a brigade? I have some really beat up Union brigades with many of the infantry regiments (elements) at less than 100 men each. I'd like to combine these to free up space for additional units.

Is there a way to accomplish this?

You can combine units as long as there's room for it in one of the brigades' original TOE, i.e. if the brigade has lost an infantry element, you can combine it with a unit consisting of a single infantry element.

However, you cannot combine damaged elements. An element counts in this equation, whether or not it is at 1% strength or 100%
