Is the Birth of Rome game a stand alone game, or is it an add-on to AJE --- opening like a scenario within the game?

Well, I guess it is a stand alone ... just looked at the game site. So, I'll rephrase my question: If one already owns AJE and you then purchase BOR, will it open under the AJE game or would they still be two distinct entities?
