I think some people are not understanding the stand alone question/concern some people have.

I believe what they are saying is that they believed they had to buy the base game of AJE to then buy all the addons they wanted. The problem as they see it is some of them did not want to buy/play the age of the scenarios in AJE and had they known that they would have waited for the other releases.

I only really like Roman history during the republic and find the imperial centuries to be tedious and boring. I know the history I just don't like it. If you offered me free books about the empire I would probably pass.

So someone like me would only really want to buy the games that have the republic scenarios in them compared to later ones.

I am only stating what I believe their question is about.

Personally I will probably buy all of the games, even the ones that have scenarios I do not care about in the hope that the series takes off. So that I might see an Alexander or much more importantly for myself a Diadochi game/scenario.

Roman legons in BOR will auto-build siege engines, but with a very low probability - reflecting the lack of roman siege warfare expertise in this age.

Ok since absolutely no one can answer my questions i've been asking for the past 2 pages. Can anyone verify that if you put the code into your matrix games owned games profile it'll appear?

Maybe someone at Matrix could answer your question. I just do not know the answer.

Bought the game from AGEOD -- logged into Matrix to check for you as I have an account and some of their games, and Birth of Rome isn't listed yet on their Register Game list.

You need more supplies than the besieged and wait. The one with more supplies win.

Well, there is also some chances of surrender (low...) as the besieged will take hits over time.

Also, if there is a port, don't forget to block it too... ;)

In BoR, it's better to merge the two consular armies or not ?

Just took Rome as Samnites, that felt good :D
As Rome (only played the first campaign) I arranged it 3 : 1 with the same number of Socii troops on each consular army. The one with 3 legions to attack, the other one to defend the area surrounding Rome in case some troops attack there.

The republican legions may not often build siege equipment, but they do have some positive siege modifiers as part of the special abilities of the legion. I have taken several cities, including Bovianum, by siege with no siege equipment. You just lay siege to the city and wait. It can take a few turns, but every city I have laid siege to has eventually fallen, unless a relief force drove my army away.

Since most cities have no harbour, you can just starve them out even if you have no navy to blockade the ports. With bigger cities it might take a while, though - eg. I needed 13 months siege to make Rome surrender. But even Rome WILL surrender once they have nothing to eat for a few months ;)

Does Rome ever surrender? I"ve sat outside their city forever with Pyrrhus and no surrender. I've used the tribe north of Rome and Pyrrhus both so that one can move out when supplies get low or another threat appears. The big thing I noticed is if you own Capua then supplies are no problem but once Rome retook that I've had some issues.

After playing most of the campaigns, I'll say that the force pools are far too small for my liking, but I guess it's historical. Also does anyone know when Rome get's more fleets buildable in the First Punic War?

Yes, there is an event two or three years after the beginning of the war, when the Romans found an aground carthaginan quinquereme on the italian coast, they can grew their ports capacities and the number of vessels.
