Canadian Plains Trade Area

Thu Jan 24, 2013 1:37 pm

Can someone explain how to bring a trade area with maritime access into contact with the home market. I can't get the Canadian Plains connected to the British market.

And on the topic of Canada, I want to change Saskatchewan from a protectorate into a colony. I can't play the relevant card on Regina however, even though that province is 101% CP. It's listed as non-national territory. The neighbouring Saskatchewan areas are protectorates. Is this the problem and if so how can I get around it.

Cheers.

If the CP is already 101%, then the colony is in "beyond colony" status, meaning the game considers it as national region. This is a good and bad (happened because of v1.03c if you started with the patch). Good because you can build almost everything and administer it easier, bad because you lose the VP per turn of such an advanced colony that you could turn into dominion and then into national region. You can use a script to turn it back to a colony so you can further develop it if you want.

Actually for GBR dominions is probably the best status as it gives both VPs AND is like national region. But I don't understand the problem exactly. You should't need to bring anything on your home market once it is national. They should come automatically, don't they appear on F4 production screen for the resources in question?

Hi Kensai. The problem is that while the colony itself is a protectorate, the capital, Regina, is non-national territory. To turn Saskatchewan into a colony I need to play the card on the capital, but I go to play the card on Regina and it tells me the colonial penetration is not within the limits of the decision.

My production structures in the Canadian Plains trade area show as producing when I look at the F4 screen, but I've just learnt the hard way that that does not mean they actually produce. The eastern part of the Canadian Plains (Manitoba with the single are of Regina) is non-national territory, while the remainder of Saskatchewan is a protectorate and Alberta is a colony (although only the southern two regions of Alberta are in the trade area). When I use the trade status overlay the entire area is dark brown, when I use the trade area overlay those regions that are not national territory are stripped. Bring up the trade zone box and it tells me the area is isolated except for a land connection to the US. I'm really not sure how to interpret this.

Generally speaking, you need a harbor connecting your trade area to the national soil. You probably need a collection center somewhere in the trade region as well. Something may have happened to the old collection center (when it went non-national). The collection center allows you to gather resources from the surrounding areas, and send them back to your capital.

The Canadian Plains trade area is landlocked (Hudson Bay isn't treated as sea, so you can't build a port on it). I've build a new collection centre outside the non-national trade area, but the overlays and trade box still show it as isolated.

I wish these non-national regions were done colony by colony and not area by area. I've another problem with them in Madagascar, which has been a British Protectorate for 30 years. Ampinhiny (spelling?), the southern-most region on the island, has suddenly become French non-national territory. I can't build in it, so I can't bring up the CP, which I think means I can't declare a colony, and the French have a permanent Casus Belli against me (which they recently used).
