random questions:battle result screen,entrechment,Nat Morale...

Thu Oct 25, 2012 8:21 am

Hi all,

So am playing my first campaign(as union), and am expecting to get a whoopin, but that's part of learning I figure.
Here I had Richmond sieged and then Huger comes and attacks. Attached is the battle result.
I was pretty well entrenched so that's why I had good results I figure eventhough I lost.[ATTACH]20370[/ATTACH]

Question #1: Lee is in the battle result picture, but I swear I can't see him anywhere in the area. When I hover over the region I don't see him mentioined. I assume he is in the city and therefore you can't see him? Also Lee getting the face shot means he is highest rank?senority?commanding largest force?

Question #2: Let's say Huger came into region with attack posture. Would all other stacks in region join in attack if they were defensive? passive?

Question #3: My stack is entrenched with an attack posture in a region. Another force comes in that let's say defensive posture. My stack would still get an entrench bonus, even though they probably would have to go out and pick a fight with enemy?

question#4: A battle win/loss affects National Morale. Is this shown at all on battle screen? Or when is it shown? Might be at the bottom in the message list.

That's it for now thanks for your help.

#1 - Yes, Lee is the most senior leader in the region. He should be in Richmond (and is locked at this point). If you hover over Richmond, it will say Lee and 3 units or something like that.

#2 - They might or might not. There is a small chance that a unit will join in combat if someone else is fighting in the area. The best chance for joining battles is corps (that's why we form them).

#3 - As I understand it, offensive posture cancels entrenchment bonus (you went out looking for the enemy).

4. After the turn processes, at the bottom of the screen is a red line saying "We have lost a battle in Richmond, 0 NM lost" or something similar. This tells you if you won/lost NM, and how much. You click on the red line to pull up the battle report (that you show here).
Remember - The beatings will continue until morale improves.

When a unit enters a region in which it's side has <5%MC(Military Control) that unit MUST go to Offensive Posture(red); unless it is irregular (and I don't mean digestion ;) ) e.g. Raider, Cavalry, etc., or in Passive Posture (green), which is ridiculous and you will never see.

That means that other than to chase off cavalry or Raiders[SUP]1)[/SUP] NEVER go to Offensive Posture if you are expecting to be attacked. Stay in your trenches in Defensive Posture (blue) and let them come to you. Being well entrenched -- especially if your stack is well endowed with artillery -- can make up 2-3 to 1 odd against you. As Jim says, if you go to Offensive Posture, you will both be out looking for a fight and you will have lost your defensive advantage and the entrenchments that your men so laboriously lifted out.

[SUP]1)[/SUP] To chase off scouting Cavalry and marauding Raiders you should have 1 or two independent Cavalry of your own that you can set to offensive and/or send to attack them. Be careful though, a) if you are about to be attacked, pull your guards into the main stack or town lest they be picked off piecemeal, and b) if the pests that you wish to fight off are close to a large stack of their own, you can expect them to run back to Momma™. So if you intercept them, your interceptors may well follow their pray back into the nest and get smacked smartly about the head and shoulders.

As someone who just got seriously beat by an excellent CSA player (Altaris) let me give you this tip, if the CSA player is a 'stay at home defencemen' set up a serious blockade (70% or more is better) early in the war so he cannot endlessly build with lots of war supplies. then punch as many holes in the south(starting with texas) via sea invasions. USE your fleets, they will get back some NM if he tries to stop you.
