Engineers?

What are the engineer units used for? I believe the naval engineers are used to enhance ship construction--is this right? And what do the army engineers do?

Main use is too speed up entrenchment work and river crossing. In addition they accelerate Siege resolution.

Have a look in the manual at the abilities' list...
