We need a FAQ thread

Mon Apr 16, 2007 1:45 pm

What would really help current and future players is a good long Frequently Asked Questions thread.
As the forum grows, questions that were answered by Pocus or the beta team will get buried and new players with the same questions will get frustrated when they can't find information.

Alot of the answers are in the manual but it helps for a new player to simply read a FAQ's thread.

The thread should be locked or at least kept clean, so that important info doesn't get buried by one line reply's.
Look to Paradox forums for example's. They have excellent FAQ's.

Excellent suggestion.

I did the BoA. This is really time demanding. :bonk:
I plan to begin the AACW one soon, when we'll be done with all the communication stuffs, but the Beta team might help me here.

Thanks Korrigan,
It is time consuming.
If we can use this thread as a preliminary FAQ to accumulate info while you start an official one.

Everyone can throw in a few ideas to get you started.
Any little tip or trick that has helped them or they have learned while playing.

It might help new players to decrease the "learning curve".

FAQ-Tips-Tricks

1: Use the Tooltips. Alot of information is to be had by hovering your mouse over objects, icons, regions, cities, units, etc..

2: Shortcut Keys/Hotkeys.Page 50-51 of the manual has a list of shortcut keys that are very usefull.
- use E or R to cycle through land units. T or Y for naval units
- use Ctrl + E or R to skip units that are not moving. T or Y for naval units.

3: Right click a tab to lock a stack, this prevents accidental merging with other stacks, Right click again to unlock.
- Ctrl + L will lock/unlock all stacks on the map in the same way.

4: Message Box. Use the filter buttons, just to the left of the Message box, to help sort through a long list of messages.
- Click once on Black messages to jump to the map location.
- Click twice on Red messages to open a more detailed explaination.
- Some Red messages have tooltips also.

5: Unit Detail box. Clicking on a units NATO icon from the Unit Panel (along the bottom of the screen) will open the Unit Detail Box.
- Continue clicking this icon to cycle through all Elements in that unit.
- If the unit is a Division, you will cycle through all Elements in every Brigade of that Division.

6: Promote Generals. When a General is eligible for promotion you will get a Message Box message, and a Yes in the "Is Promotable" line of his Detail Box.
*I don't know what makes a general eligible, so someone can add that info here?*

- Select the General, Click on the middle Special Orders tab (tent symbol), the Promote button should be available (bottom left button).
- If the General is in a Division that is stacked with a Corps, you need to move his Division off of the Corps stack (this makes him an Independent command for the moment). The Promote button should now be available. Promote the General, then move his Division back into the Corps stack.

Indeed. The one for BoA was of great help; can't see any reason why it wouldn't be for AACW :)

Another handy indicator of a general with a promotion available to him: The general symbol (ie: [*]) in the upper right of his unit pulsates in white.

You know, it be nice to have this feature added to the Roster as well! It's a bit too easy not to notice a general is promotable, IMO.

Here's a good candidate for a FAQ: How blockading works:

(BoA-thread, but applies to AACW as well, from what Pocus says :) )
