Unfortunately, due to the hacking of the forum's user information a while ago, some of you were unable to use the forum's password reset functionality, due to e.g. having an outdated e-mail address associated with your forum account.
Personally, I think this sucks. I don't know what I'd do if I suddenly lost access to my account here, but I do know that I wouldn't be happy nor impressed if I suddenly had to start my forum life a-new.
There didn't seem to be a way round this, since the forum has two ways of verifying that you are you are; either by comparing a password you supply with a password stored for you (the latter of which the hacking exposed in an unknown number of cases) or by asking for a code sent to your e-mail address (i.e. password reset). However, I may have figured out something that might work, but before I start looking at the details and particulars of it, I don't want to promise anything.
What I do need to know is how many people had to re-register and who needs assistance in this manner. So, if you are among these "rebirthers", simply let me know what your now-unavailable username is and I'll see if I can sort it out for you.
What will happen is that if I'm able to verify that you indeed are quite likely to be the owner of the now-unavailable account, I'll merge the two, keeping the username of the previously-unavailable account and the mail address of the post-hack/newly registered account.
I'm really sorry for the inconvenience of the whole password reset and the effects it has had, especially for some, but even in hindsight, I don't see how else we could've done this. Just bear with me for a bit further, and hopefully, we'll get it sorted out shortly
