Where do Riverine Transport show up?

Mon May 28, 2012 4:39 pm

I'm playing a PBEM game and I purchased several Riverine Transports that I thought, based on the map shown when hovering, that they would appear somewhere in Missouri. But they never appeared. So I tried Ohio. Same thing. I spent the money, conscripts and war supply, but I don't seem to have anything to show for it.

And to clarify, the USA held St. Louis the entire time, so I had expected that that transports would appear there.

What am I missing?

MO river craft are most often built in St. Louis, but check St. Joseph and along the Missouri River.

IL and OH can be built on the lakes. Check your Ship Roster to be sure.

None of the above. Not only did I check, but one would expect them to show up when cycling through with ERTY. Nothing. They seem to have just vanished...

You built the "counters" that are on the Reinforcements Tab right? ... not the River Transport that is with Railroads on the Commerce tab? If it's the latter, there are no units (counters), just an increase in your riverine transport capacity.
Two Rules: 1. The Tournament Director is always right. 2. When the Tournament Director is wrong, see Rule 1.

Also, it's a small detail, but clicking on a town or city with just riverine or naval units in it will not immediately show you the unit(s), as it would with any land units present--you have to notice the small blue pennant and click on it (and you won't see the pennant at all if you are zoomed right out).

Yep, yep and yep :) Been playing since first released.

I'm running some tests to see if I can recreate it. But definitely was in the reinforcement tab (selected the ones for Missouri) and no blue flag exists.

Go back a couple of Turns, maybe? All I can think of that's useful.

Could it be linked with missing WS production in the MO harbor? Same issue as for artillery I mean.

Make sure you comply with all of the requirements listed in your Updates readme, with regard to 'Raise Rule' [on Page 1]

USA Rivering transports do not have 'Alternate Areas' like Artillery, and so all requirements must be met in Union-controlled MO

Sadly, there is no easy way to pre-screen unit builds in AACW, as is done with the ROP/PON/RUS/AJE Unit build system, so you'll get these 'non-deliveries' without a message...

The riverine transports do not require a Harbor providing WS, but they do, as with all units, require a region with 25% or higher Loyalty. Saint Louis is generally far below 25% Loyalty. The one town in Missouri that is usually over 25% -- I can't remember the name at the moment, but its at the end of the train line going west from Quincy IL through Bloomfield MO above the Missouri River -- but that doesn't have a harbor. Jefferson and Lexington MO usually have less the 25% loyalty too. Check all the Missouri harbors; if non of them are in a region with 25% or more loyalty, this will prevent you from building any riverine vessels in Missouri at all -- and this without a message.

Edit: just remembered the town's name, it's St. Joseph.

Ah those francs-tireurs of the Missouri stripe... bars I should say: they are busy even when nothing seems to be happening. :dada:
That town is St. Joseph MO, and no harbour. There's one just across the river though, in Ft. Leavenworth KS.
Edit: Just caught your edit.

I'll bet you have solved my question. Only thing that would be nice is a log entry if the requested reinforcement couldn't be built.

Nicer yet would be a message in the reinforcements menu stating that they will either not be built or only built outside their build-state. Darken out ones that cannot be built at all and mark out-of-state builds with an icon for example. Well, I can dream can't I? ;)

Yes! Dreams are good!

The AACW engine is to be thought of as 'legacy', where only severe game crasher bugs get fixed.

The correct solution is to implement the newest AGE engine, as in ROP/RUS/AJE... :w00t:

...which would be AACW2!

Probably not likely for quite some time...

One can hope. ;)
