Gatling Guns

Sat May 19, 2012 9:44 am

Only Americans (USA) can have them, right? Is there a special event that adds them? The tech discovery "Gatling Guns" doesn't seem to add them in the unit construction pool...

Yes indeed, only the USA have thel (and IIRC France too), but later on the tech allows improvement of the defensive values of infantry

But the British army had Gatling Guns and breech loading rifles by the 1870's yet in the game as the British you dont derive benifit of them through tech improvement until the late 1880's or 90's . Now I havnt got to the 1900's yet but a tech for the Vickers MG circa 1895 ish would be cool.

I would like to see breech loading rifles appear as a tech option in the late 1860's and magerzine rifles in the early 1890's to keep on track with the historical time line. Likewise breech loading artillary in the 1870's and QF ordinance by the late 1890's.

With the ability to upgrade and add replacements to forces rather than add the benifits as a generic combat modifier because the icons for the artillary units in the 1890's are claimig they are muzzel loaders. Incidentally mechine guns should be catagorised as light artillary at l.est in the British army.

Icons are simply chrome. Although I concur they should eventually be fixed, there are other priorities.

Yes in all the modifications that might be made to PON its not the highest of priority. But I think what is important would be the ability to pay production points to up grade unit counters weapons tech and to purchase replacement points for unit losses.

One final point about small arms, the games tech leval seems (I can only speak for the British) to permit the invention of the rifled musket in the 1860's which isnt historicaly correct. Of the major powers its true that Russia and Japan did not mass issue rfiled muskets until the 1860-70's but they became the principle rifle type of other Powers in the 1850's.

Are you sure the British don't have these units already from the 50s? Some factions do start with units before they can normally build them (after researching them). Ironclad corvettes is one example, I believe.

You should compare the stats of British line infantry with Russian or Japanese and notice any differences.

To be precise Iam describing the introduction of the rifled musket as the primary infantry small arms rather than a snipers/skirmishing weapon.

The British army susbtatitted its Brown Bess smoothbores for the Minie rifle during the Crimnean War and replaced them with the 1857 Enflield. A weapon that is arguable the definative development of the musket.
