Other ways to show supply?

Thu May 17, 2012 6:48 pm

I'm completely new to RoP (and to AGEOD) and very much enjoying the level of detail, realism, and sophistication of the game. I can see, too, that the responsiveness and consistent support of the developers here is amazing!

My supply questions: I know you can activate a supply map filter to show supply availability in different colors. I'm wondering, though, if there is a way to get more information on a province level about supply, such as how much is it supplied. The tooltip does not show anything about supply in provinces I have no troops in. (Incidentally, it would be fabulous if the tooltip showed a bunch of information about supply when you have the supply map filter activated.)

This would also help me clear up something related that I'm confused about, such as provinces showing up as green when they don't actually have any supply that I can detect. I've included a picture to illustrate. Can anyone tell me why the "?" provinces are green? (The tooltip shows 0 supplies sent and received from my Elbe Armee there.) It seems that the province an army is in always shows up as green, even when they are rapidly losing supply. Why is that?

Thanks!

You are early into this game.
Hang tough, you will see a much more sophisticated view in a turn or two.

The colour of provinces on the map does not show that there are supplies in/going through there. They show that supplies can potentialy go through IIRC (if there is a string of "green" provinces between the source and target).

I would really much love to see more info myself. Moreover, a hint about quantification? What does 100 supply really mean? Is it enough for a 100-power strong unit for a turn or so?

@Durk. Are you saying the filter will provide *more* information in a few turns? I'm confused.

@Anazagar. This clears up the mystery nicely. Thank you. Now I just wish there was additional information with the supply filter to show what I thought it was showing--if there are indeed available supplies at that spot. It helps that I (now) understand that you need to be in or adjascent to a supply-providing region in order to be receiving supply, but there might be occasions when you could be adjescent and not receive supplies--if there are too many units for the amount of supply at that depot, for example.

@Kensai. I tried to figure this out by looking at several units and what number of general supplies (GS) they "ate" per turn. It was not consistent:

  • A small unit with 169 men (14 power) ate 6 GS/turn. That means each GS point fed 28.2 men per turn.
  • Another unit with 1,588 men (131 power) ate 16 GS/turn. Each GS fed 99.3 men per turn.
  • Finally, a unit with 4,790 men (212 power) ate 67 GS/turn. Each GS fed 71.5 men per turn.

The food efficiency goes up and then back down as the unit sizes increase. Is there something I'm not accounting for that would cause such variation? (Horses were only nominally present in each of the different units.)

Hey, you wanna tell me horse food is not accounted for? :p

(thanks for the info, what I suspected myself as well, more or less... I also like the Gaussian efficiency... I hope it wasn't random and only an artifact of the small sample of yours!)
