Are Colonies Essential for Austria?

Mon Apr 30, 2012 7:19 pm

Hello, i am playing a game as Austria, i am in 4th turn right now. I am building mines and factories all over the country. But i haven't decided to focus on colonization, is it necessary for Austria? I don't know anything about colonies but if it is necessary i can read the manual. Again if it is necessary, which regions should i focus first?

Thanks.

i think austria had only limited colonisation cards(never play that nation). So you never get realy colonies, the AI can easy take your colonial regions without military power. With 1.02b you can theoretical get colonies from peace treaties but think it is better to wait for 1.02c

Austria can completely ignore the colonial world if it wants. This makes it a good nation to start with.
Austria's colonial options are limited as it gets a restricted set of cards to play, and unlike Italy and Germany it has no event that adds them.

Focus on winning a land war with a major colonial power and then ask an established colony of theirs as war reparations, provided you have a high enough warscore.

AFAIK colonies give PP to countries, since i do not colonize, how can i gain PP? I am dropped to rank 4, my PP is increasing but not as much as Russia's. My PP is 998, she has 1107. It is August 1850.

You gain PP through a variety of means. You get some due to historical events, you get some for your activities (like colonization), you get some from "winning" at missions (you apparently only get those during the 1st decade of the game). There are several other ways as well.

When you hover over the PP count (in the upper left corner), it tells you how many PP you gained for each activity type on the last turn.
