Saved Game Names

Sat Jan 28, 2012 4:20 pm

As most of you know, I am hosting a bunch of games for the tourney, plus I have my own PBEM underway and a Solo game as well. That's 8 active games. (Ok, put me down for AACW junkie.)

Anyway, because I have to switch them so often, and Alt-Tab over to email software to report results, save screenshots, etc, I often get lost as to which game I'm on! I can't find a way to tell me the name of the current Saved Game from within the game screen. I can't even tell which game I'm on if I go back to the Load Game screen. So, I usually have to end up just reloading something and taking it from there, which is a pain.

Anyone know if it is possible to see the name of the saved game from within the game itself?

When you bring it up, hit the Ctrl key one time, and then you can save without getting that pop-up asking for a new save game name. It will also display the current save game name towards the top of the screen.

I had similar issues with multiple games going and hosting, until I learned this trick.

Open \ACW\Settings\General.opt in a text editor

Near bottom you'll see something like:

LastPlayedGame = C:\AGEOD\AGEod's American Civil War\ACW\Saves\Gunboat\R North vs S South~USA.trn

This updates every time you load or save game [including auto-save att turn hosting]

<alt><Tab> to and fro!!! :D

Not quite following you, although the process sounds promising. Can you step me through what you're doing a bit more?

I tried Ctrl-Shft S and that saves the game, giving me its name at the same time. That might do, but all I really want is just the file name (no need to save, as I am not usually the one doing the ORD files).

I thought you were running into the same issue I do where you get prompted to enter a new save game name each time you alt-tab and then need to save. I see what you're asking now... don't really have a good suggestion for that one.

Longshanks - would it help if I took over the hosting for 1 or 2 of your games?

Thanks, FelixZ! I'm okay, as one of the games is about to end (two turns left - exciting finish!!!). I appreciate the offer and may take you up on it soon!

I'm also available to host a game or two if need be.
