defenders are invicible

Tue Dec 27, 2011 4:14 pm

This is really starting to be heavy. im in 1900, and after 50 years experience, I can easily say that between major powers, in battle between two big armies, it will constantly be the defender who will win. absolutely no other outcome is possible. but I dont really want to wait for ages for them to send their armies to get destroyed before starting the war.

possible to change this??

especially since ive got good numbers of artillery, which should do a good job against defences

My problem was france against prussia, I surrounded them by capturing all regions around big army, then I had to finnish this, and send everyone to attack.
they were at least twice as strong, but the result was as usual next turn theyre all 2 regions further , damaged and running.
then prussia attacked a city with half their power, and lost badly too.

this is impossible if you cant attack!!!

do you have screenshots ???

what was the level of entrenchment ?

was one of the armies fortified in a city in both cases or only in one?

What kinds of troops were used ?

was there a time delay between arrival of all your troops ?

Bonuses ?

Dice rolls ?

...and many more questions...

while i argued that defensive bonuses of entrenchment and city are mounting numbers,

others think the hand-to-hand combat is excessive

if you want to test a save with a first step of a good mod,
McNaughton worked on this and other questions

but remember, its on your own risk, a mod

Ill wait till I finnished playing this campaign before mods

the army was entrenched, probably well, but not in a city

I dont know if supply came? the only way out was through hannover, so unless supply treaty, they should be without supply, right?

I got no idea about dice rolls and such, but this happens constantly and frankly dice rolls seem to hardly vary or affect anything

my troops consisted mostly of light and heavy corps, few division and brigades, quite a lot of seperate artillery including tons of heavy artillery,
few cavalry corps

the two biggest armies came at same time (day 12) but one came on day 8.
there were two battles, maybe one for each arrival.
(how do you make them come at same time without merging??)

few good generals in all armies

hand to hand combat included

oh, and yeah, i did the great war without any attack either. for the reason of devastating battles.

just waiting the last years and using american troops to block enemies movements effectively.

however, losses are barely significantly higher than in 1864, counted as a percentage of total troops.
in 1915 i attacked with 6:1 ratio and lost roughly 75% of troops, as i lost sometimes with similar high losses 50 years before. :(

thats the problem x(

the alternative would be to run supplies out, as I blocked ports and I captured all surrounding regions, but I frankly dont trust this game to make this work.

worked for me in the ACW, bu took me about two years i case of supply wagons.

best is, block them with movements of own troops, force them into provinces with cities, order the troops to avoid battle (blue / passive order).
AI will eventually attack, for the scripted aggression, they will flee to the town and you can draw some troops to other hotspots, for you get the high entrenchment of your won troops.

its a bad calculation, for you need strategic objectives anyway to compensate war tired citizens.

block them from further movements, let them attack

i ignored even naval battles as long the english channel was sealed. and depending of the nation someone plays, overrun the colonies.

but i was only the american allied in th great war, i ponder if you started the war :D
