advance stopped colonies

I am colonizing as africa as historically planned:
france wanted to go from left to right while great britain from down to up
but great britain has accra colony ( though it is only influenced) and I have all needed points for protectorate. Im in alliance with great britain and I dont really want to destroy it though I know there were other ways to exchange colonies at that time. any solutions? I couldnt even declare stake, though I never saw it possible somewhere (solutions type offering money, putting pressure , giving a colony in exchange, convincing the world youre rightfull owner)
please add this if it doesnt exist

if they are not in protectorate, then you should be able to beat them here, I don't quite get why you can't declare one yourself if all conditions are met.

yeah defenetly not their protectorate. it clearly says british influenced
