Very Negative Experience... (Solved)

Sat Feb 25, 2006 3:21 am

This is something I have NEVER experienced...purchasing this title was so frustrating that if I was not as stubborn as I am, I would have walked away and never looked back. I wanted to purchase the digital download, but the only way to do this was to send in an order request by fax...this is absolutely preposterous and unacceptable in the year 2006. I REFUSE to fax my credit card information to France, nor should anyone expect me to, much less for a product that I will be downloading over the internet...it DEFEATS the whole purpose of digital download...

SO fine, I wanted to give the game a fair shake, so I ordered the CD version with the expectation that I could then get the digital download...I spend the extra $10 and am finally able to use my credit card online like a normal human being...but guess what? NO DIGITAL DOWNLOAD...so then I go out of MY way and find that I actually have to send an email to request access to the digital download! What a slap in the face...its now HOURS after I sent such request and I haven't heard so much as a mouse fart from anybody over there...so now i'm out $40 bucks and I have nothing...while at the same, others have figured out how to just use the digital download feature and are happy at play...The more I think about it, the angrier I become...What is with you people? :tournepas

I am sorry that this has to be my first, and quite possibly my last post on this forum...

Jarhead,

I read about your frustration here and over at The Wargamer. Since this is a newly started company, I'm willing to bet it's probably a one or two man operation who have been working overtime with little or no sleep to get the product finished and out the door on their targeted finish date--this week. I'm willing to cut them some slack as far as getting all the bugs out on their digital downloading procedure. They probably didn't realize it would as overwhelming as it is.

That said, I sent an e-mail to the forum administrator last night about my password to download the game and in the morning it was waiting in my e-mail box. Since you haven't received anything back from him for HOURS, I'd venture to guess that maybe the guy is getting some much needed sleep. Just my opinion, but life is a little too short to get overly stressed about a computer game not arriving in a timely fashion. I'm sure your password and download instructions will be sent to you by tomorrow.

Give these folks a break. This is a small start-up company. They probably haven't had a good night's sleep in weeks. They finally get this project done, and probably went out to celebrate and catch up on sleep. I am quite sure they will address this soon....have some patience!

These folks live in France - thats 7 hours ahead of my time zone here in the States. Plan accordingly - read the threads. Gee - they havent responded in an hour?

They are sending out emails to people to download so they can control the traffic on the server - INSTEAD - of letting everyone try to download at the same time.

C'mon - give these guys a chance
Thanks
Wayne

It's 5:00 Am in Paris...I hope they get up early :niark: .
I placed my order this morning, USA Pacific Time, and i have been nurturing this bottle of French Merlot(1972) in honor(honour) of the release of AGEOD.
I may soon be out of wine but i have lots of fresh baked bread and Brie...N'est Pas?
@ Philipe et al: AGEOD can/will be a truly "Great Invasion" as you now have our attention IMHO. The ball is in your court.

Look, people. Let's not start the "I hate this company - well, you're a crybaby" crap. I've had a belly full of that elsewhere (which shall remain nameless, but the initials are "Matrix Games Forums").

Suffice it to say that this company, be it a startup out-of-the-basement operation or a multi-billion euro slick deal, is marketing a product. The company said the product was for sale. Good faith customers (me included) came forward with the necessary funds to purchase and found delivery wanting.

When you go to the grocery for milk, don't you expect to buy that product and have it in your hand then and there to carry home and enjoy? If it is not, will you patronize that grocery again?

I am willing to be reasonable, but that is a two-way street. When you choose to be in business, you lose a lot of sleep, and no one feels sorry for you. You celebrate success (and catch up on sleep) after success has been achieved (just ask George Herbert Walker Bush and George W. Bush, who both made the mistake of declaring victory before victory had been earned).

So, AGEOD, deliver the product. Customers are waiting to be satisfied.

It's 7:24 Am in Paris...I have been here since 10:00am Pacific Time(24th), USA...i can't place a new order for the download because the shop won't recognize my account info :tournepas ....so...i can't even place a new order for the "dd only" without starting a new account which probably won't work without a new "ISP"(Tech Endowed). Damn, I hate rejection...C'est La Vie...Pffft.

I'm sorry to hear all these download problems. The people in charge of that are working 7/7 so I guess all will be sorted rather soon I expect.

Getting the game was actually quite painless for me, so I'm sorry to hear that some of you are having a problem in obtaining it. (And not to rub it in, but I'm having a good time exploring its possibilites.)

Although the orders probably aren't "flooding in", my order number was 152 and I ordered the game ten days ago, so getting e-mails back to people may be taking more time than anticipated. I'm not trying to apologize for the publisher, but things [I]do[I] happen that are out of anyone's control.

To go along with the milk analogy, if I went to the store and there was no milk on the store shelves even though I read in the morning paper that the store was having this fantastic sale on milk, I wouldn't get all bent out of shape about it. Maybe the truck that was delivering the milk was in an accident. Maybe the store got robbed ten minutes before I got there. Maybe there was a traffic-halting snowstorm like the one that hit the East Coast of the U.S. last week and no deliveries could be made. I'd certainly give the shop owner the benefit of the doubt until I heard an explanation. Now, if the store was still out of milk after a week, I'd probably take my business elsewhere. BUT if this was a special kind of milk that I REALLY wanted and this was the only store that carried it, I'd have to suck it up and WAIT until it was available. Either that or drink something else.

For those that haven't been able to get the game yet, just play another game of Civilization IV. :fleb:

About the Fax problem, it seems to occur only for US citizen. I am afraid this has more to do with the Credit company Ageod is working with. However, I agree this is quite a pain for you. But I'm sure that the ageod grunts are working restless to get it solved (if only cause US is the biggest market for this game).

About the digital download, I read on the French forum that Philippe Thibaut plans to move to a better provider ASAP.

TIP:
An american guy advises in another thread to declare yourself as British citizen when regestering in order to buy your digital download using your US card. I have not tried it but you might.
(if AGEOD guys are not OK with this tip they can EDIT it)

Have a look here http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?p=2140#post2140

The whole problem was linked with the Hotmail address in the first place apparently...

Objectively, you are quite correct.

However, I have been writing and developing software for over 25 years. My own level of empathy exceeded my objectivity. I have worked at large and small companies, and there is nothing quite like being at a small software company on the verge of its first major release.

Imagine it is 2 AM, and you are doing the "final" build, and for some reason a .dll goes missing and your product won't install. I have seen good and gentle people come totally unglued; quiet and introspective people start swearing like a sailor.

The problems mentioned above, in software development terms, are all rather minor. An oversight that can be quickly corrected. As I stated, you are correct .... and I let my own personal experience color my response ... sorry if it came out rude.

Sorry to hear some have had problems. I ordered it today and and was playing it 30 minutes later. I had the option of either paying by credit card digitally (took 10 seconds for validation) or faxing. Maybe you picked the wrong option?
