Fortress assault without breaches?

Fri Jun 24, 2011 11:38 pm

I just had a very weird outcome at Prague:

1) Prussia's whole army attacked the city, the Austrians retreated after a battle with roughly equal casualties. That part is a bit frustrating but understandable (I should have used hold at all costs).

2) This part however isn't (at least not to me): In the last round of the battle report the Prague garrision fights the whole Prussian army.

How is that possible? The garrision was inside the fort on passive posture.
The only general in RoP who can attack forts without breaches is Laudon, the Prussians don't have such a general.

This smells of a bug!?

Please, dear developpers, could you take a look at the attached game files and help me understand this. :coeurs:

I did not open the file, but I remember that only one breach is repaired a turn, so it could be that the city was heavily breached by the previous Austrian siege...

Thanks Narwhal, I am aware of that rule. That is not what happened.

Prague hadn't been under siege before. Either the defenders marched out once the main army was retreating (without orders to do so) or Prussia did an instant assault. Both should be impossible.

Anyone? It would really help if someone could come up with an explanation or confirm that this was a bug. :hat:

I don't want to be pushy, but is there any news about this issue?

I would really appreciate it if someone would take a look. :) It might be a bug or perhaps I made some stupid mistake?

Please do! I'm assembling patch now, and am chasing quite a few other issues...

Although it's not the issue here, remember that "Passive" inside a fort is not really Passive. IIRC, the force inside defaults to "Defensive".
Always ask yourself: "Am I part of the Solution?" If you aren't, then you are part of the Problem!

So, my conclusions :

1. It is really a bug, not Mexican's oversight
2. It is reproductible
3. The problem is related to the leader of the "garrison" stack :
a. If he is the stack, the stack engages and Praag is taken
b. If he is not in the garrison stack, the garrison remains in the city.
