Hi Twitter

There seem to be three modes of play:-

1. Strictly turn based
2. Strictly turn based with Army by Army activation and the possibility of other rules
3. Playing with strictly turn based NOT ticked (Is this WeGo?)

After starting playing in (2.) assessing that was the most realistic I now play in (1.) after reading the AI may perform better without Army by Army activation! I also encountered some game stalls in mode (2.) especially before the 1.08L patch and then occasionally when playing the 4 player campaign as single player (Russia) against 3xAI (1 friendly, 2 enemy).

Having experienced no stalls whatsoever in mode (1.) that's how I now play it. Also, it is far faster to plot without imho losing anything really from the game. BUT you MUST press the execute (not the next phase button) all moves button otherwise certain moves are not done but remain plotted till next turn. If I've read the manual correctly in WeGo which must be mode (3.) you CAN simply hit the next phase button and everything gets done.

Hope this helps. Correct me if I'm wrong. :)

I think you explained it right on. I play in (3 - according to your post) which is WEGO (just like WIA) so that explains why I could not find the execute button you referred to. After this current game, I will try turn based. I do like the WEGO because it can lead to some interesting "run-ins" with the enemy when you both are trying to get to an objective coming from different angles. I find it also makes me think of my movement as I know he will be moving at essentially the "same time" and the best way to get where I want to go.

Mr Twitter

I'm also finding (in 'simple turn mode', i.e. type 1. above) that sometimes my plotted moves do NOT get done. Although this is frustrating, I believe this is a genuine and intended part of the game and represents the enemy pre-empting my moves somehow.

I think it's something to do with not being able to attack an opponent's army twice in the same turn (except via a breakthrough), so if your opponent's prior moves that turn would cause that to happen then your intended move is thwarted so to speak. Likewise, I daresay the AI misses out on some of its intended moves.

I've not yet tried mode 3. as described above, which I'm now assuming is WeGo mode. I'd be interested to read a fuller explanation of what you mean by "run-ins" as you experience them in WeGo.

(The best I can think of is your army in region A, which is adjacent to B, which is adjacent to C occupied by the enemy, and enemy in C moves to B at the same time as your army in A attempts to move into B. Is that it? I assume the initiative player gets to be the attacker? I'm not sure this same situation wouldn't occur in my mode of play also?)

Cheers

I agree that the AI does miss some moves, but what I am finding even more interesting is the AI's disregard of retreating. Last night I watched as the AI (Austria-Hungry) battle Russia several times and even when outnumbered 3 to 1 (as seen by the icon in the battle screen) they refused to retreat and lost their entire army a few times. I mean destroyed not disrupted.

As to your example of WEGO, that is what I was referring to, but more like add in region D, E, and so on. I have seen several times where being 3 or so regions apart armies kind of "crash into each other". Try it, you might find it to your liking.

1.08L is all inclusive, no need to install previous patches.

Hi!

When I downloaded the "WW1 Gold Edition", a version of the game was 1.08. I wanted to ask 1.08 and 1.08L are one and the same? Thanks! :)

If you see "1.08" on the main menu when running the game, the latest version 1.08L is not installed.

So download and install the latest patch:
http://ageoddl.telechargement.fr/3rdParty/WW1%20GOLD/Patches/WW1_Patch_v1.0.8l.exe

Hello i installed the WW1 Gold Upgrade from Gamersgate about a month ago. I cant make up my mind if its up to date or not? All it says is 1.08 i tried to install this patch into it but doesnt seem to recognise the folder and ends up creating a separate folder with the patch number on my c drive. Have i done it wrong or is my gold upgrade already up to date hope someone can help thank you.

It's the usual mess caused by Win7. Am I right?
Simply launch the patch installer and when you are asked about the game directory, browse and select the correct directory where the game is located. This should make the patch installed in the proper folder... ;)

Hello thanks for your reply. I finally realised what the cause was. My game folder was set up on the main c drive root directory and when i looked at it there was another World War One sub folder where all the game files were. So i finally manage to download the patch into that subfolder using the browse button. But im mystified by another folder on my start up programs list under the World War One folder which is the main game. It says WW1 Gold then underneath it says Single CPU Mode: Does that mean anything to you? Ive left it for now. Hope to hear from you if that means anything thanks.

It means the new shortcut link for launching the game in single core mode has been copied inside a folder not matching WW1's one. Move that shortcut link from that folder to the right one and remove the folder left empty.

Here it says 'patch 1.08L', but in another thread one discusses 1.08M. So that seems to be the latest patch, but I can't find a link to download it. Maybe I missed it, but in other forums there is a thread 'latest patches'. Thanks anyway!

1.08L is the current official version. 1.08M is the latest version yet under development and testing, thus yet not available for download.
