Artillery Discrepancies

Sun Apr 03, 2011 1:43 pm

Just a possible technical question:

In the following battle log, you will see that the Union army is said to include 2x light artillery (6 pounders), 2x 10 pounders and 1x 12 pounder artillery.

So far so good, except that I happen to know I have no 6 pounders in that force. And when I check after that battle, one of the divisions engaged has 2x 12 pounders and 1x 10 pounder, the other one each of 10 and 12 pounder.

So it looks to me like in the battle screen, two of my 12 pounders have been converted to six pounders.

Is this normal? Is the game representing something else (like disadvantageous ground)? Or is this simply a bug, either in the battle screen, or in-game?

I'd be surprised if the game was identifying the guns inaccurately to represent a factor (AACW is pretty accurate). Are you sure it couldn't be something like 6lbs that convert aftere the battle? Undoubtly unlikely, but the only explanation I can think of without it being a bug.

I can think of 2 possibilities.

1. They converted from 6 to 12 during the turn (after the battle).
2. They were originally 6lbs (that converted previously), and the after battle report is showing their original state. If you look at the generals in the top, it shows the generic general stats, not the increased stats (from being a corps for example).

Something else may have happened as well. If your hosting/playing against the AI, you can go back a turn and see what your forces had last turn.
Remember - The beatings will continue until morale improves.

I think Jim's #2 is right. You could check the battle log and see whether those batteries acted as 6 or 12 pounders.

Checked previous turn (should have done this straight away, I guess), they were indeed two 6 pounders before the battle. I take it then one doesn't get any messages when things upgrade automatically.

And woot, I'm rid of two silly 6 pounders for two shiny new 12 pounders. Muhahahahaha.
