dislike the original as i makes me feel i am sitting off to the side of a table
looking at it from a distance and the graphics are not what a mapmaker of
the time would produce. Love the game otherwise!

I'm not trying to be difficult. I really don't understand your interpretation.
It's awesome that you love the game! This is the place to go to find out more about how to enjoy it. Your map comment did surprise me, as it is a point many people make when discussing the things they like about the game.
dolphin,
FWIW, comments like that don't help anyone. In the future, please do not use my comments as the seed of your statements. Thanks.

Cromagnonman wrote:pp, I think you are confusing this with a different game. The map is rather aesthetically superior to period maps (especially if you see in color), and conveys a lot more information (the purpose of a map). I do not understand what you mean when you say it is at an angle; the map is very clearly top-down. Some of the features (towns, mountains, woods) are drawn "at an angle" (I think that's what you mean), but only to make the terrain more apparent at a glance.
I think I'd rather stick with a representation of the world as it was, not as the cartographers of the time thought it was. Joe Hooker relied on period maps, and you see where it got him.

The latter applies to the Union, mostly, although the South has a few - it seems the South's incompetents are really incompetent.
