New player (Question about the forum)

Tue Feb 01, 2011 9:38 pm

I am periodically getting the Windows Network pop-up box asking me for name and password particularly when I try to access a posted link.

Here is the cut and paste of the message in the log-in box.

The server http://www.ageod.net at Website deactivated, password required / Websider deaktivert, passord kreves requires a username and password.

Warning: This server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection).

Can anyone explain how to get arround this as there are many links posted in the message threads and I can't access due to this problem.

If you can't answer that question maybe you can help me with another one I have more game related.

When you are assigning leaders one of the options is to give them a divisional command which I notice actually has a cost.

I am also noticing that the assignment to command the division seems to only last one turn and then you need to keep reassigning the leader as a Divisional commander continually paying the cost each turn you want them in command.

Is this normal; and also what advantage does doing this give your leader to justify the expense.

Then its a WAD. (Working As Designed) Thats OK then. Thanks for the reply.

I can assure you my only interest here is in the game and possibly playing a PBM with someone down the road when I finally get a handle on how to play.

Just purchased the game last night after playing the tutorial.

Just assign a leader and you should be good to go. This is from the Manual.

Well I am an old hand at playing war games. Started back before computers with the Ole Boxed versions. Avalon Hill, SPI etc...

I have played my fair share of computer war games as well.

Grand Strategy types are my favorite genre.

OK; I see now there is more depth to it than I was able to discern playing the tutorial scenerio's then. I can preume then you don't have to assign the leader of a division each and every turn and continually keep paying the costs.

During the tutorials I was primarily useing my x1 Star Divisonal Generals merely as subordinates to my Corp Commanders to increase Corp CP.

I have the latest 1.6 patch installed and will be starting my first full campaign in a little while to get my feet wet after I finish reading posts and making some notes which is what I have been doing now for near about 6 hours total on and off since I downloaded the full version from GamersGate last night.

For me learning how to play the games has always been half the fun.

I plan to focus as a Southern Player. I hate the Union with a passion.

P.S. 7 posts down and 3 more to go.

I should have regiustered when I started the tutorials two days ago darnit.

Oh well. Thanks for the welcome and you will be happy to hear I am not a "WHINER". Yes I read that little exchange between you and so and so and your spat over corps not being able to be formed in the first 3 months of the war.

P.S. 9 down and 1 to go.

Regarding divisions, you must actually put the units in the division. Just hitting the division button doesn't turn the stack into a division. You have to hold control, select what units you want in, then hit the combine button. I think that's what you were running into.

That very well may have been my problem.

I was just hitting the button thinking it was supposed to
somehow increase the Generals CP. When that did not
happen I was left wondering if maybe it gave the General
certain one turn temporary combat bonuses simulating
Offensive Supply. I did not know what to think.

Krec is right. You only should have the patience to learn from your errors and understand the internal workings.
