Regular or Irregular?

Tue Dec 28, 2010 8:11 pm

What's the best way to know if a unit is "irregular"? i.e. whether it can/cannot change control an enemy region or a structure?

For an example of my confusion, digging through the model files it seems that some American "light infantry" are regular but some French "light infantry" are irregular. Also, is cavalry considered regular or irregular?

There must be a better way than diggin through a gajillion model files...

By checking what replacements chits it uses. "Regular inf" is displayed by the crossed rectangle without any symbols chits.

Thanks again. I found a better way (for me anyway) - using the unit list and filtering "irregular" units.

The rules state that Irregular units and Partisans may only take control of a structure if the Loyalty of the region is greater than 50%. Since Loyalty is not in effect during the F&IW these type of units can never control a structure and thus never control a region in F&IW scenarios.

Also, In order to gain credit for a captured Objective or Strategic city, a player must garrison the location with a regular unit (i.e. no Irregulars, Militias) if the region has a Loyalty Rating less than 51%. Thus Irregulars and Militias can never capture Objectives or Strategic Cities in the F&IW.
