Very bloody battles

Sat Nov 27, 2010 11:38 pm

I’m loving the game so far, awesome job guys. But I just had an epic fight in the DNO scenario that made me think units are a little too aggressive in combats. The situation is this, it’s turn 7 of the game and I’m playing as the Communists. I took Kiev a few turns back and have been rebuilding my forces in Kiev sitting idle with three Corps around the city.

Their army command (entered the first fight about half way through and stayed in the area after) is behind them across the river in the fort hex, all total it’s a strength of roughly 85,000. This turn Germany attacked with a force of about equal strength and my heart skipped a beat as I fully expected the Russians to go down as their troops and leaders aren’t as good as the Germans.

However an entrenchment level of 3 for my troops seems to have made the difference and the attack was repulsed. Then Germany seems to have gone into berserk mode or something and it threw itself over and over at my troops for a total of 5 engagements. Each time saw the Germans lose the battle and take losses of roughly double my own.

In the end Germany lost about 50,000 of its starting force (about 2/3rds) strength due to the repeated assaults. Here are the fights:

Needless to say this pretty much destroyed the offensive capabilities of Germany south of the Pripet Marshes in just one turn. Is there any way to limit the max number of assaults a given force will make after a failed attack to just one additional effort and then it stops if it fails a second time? If so can it be modded in somehow by me?

Jim

Edit: Almost forgot to mention that Germany is still in the area with my troops, so it'll probably get smashed some more next turn.

This is weird, because after a failed battle, the same stack is not supposed to be able to reattack during the same turn.

The only thing I can think of is that other German units were moving to the same region in attacking mode, and each time it triggers a battle, but as they lose, each time their cohesion get lower, and they lose even more...

Could you post the save game of the turn when this happened and of the turn before ?

Thanks,

Cat

In the option screen, choose another "Delayed commitment" setting. It should slow battle repetition during the same turn.

Thanks

Thanks Clovis, think it's set at med or long already but I'll double check it. Here's a .rar file with folders 1 and 2 still inside, I assume those are the two most recent turns.

Asa side note, I have not yet optimized AI for this scenario. It should be done next week.
