John Newton

Another missing Federal Major General to be considered:

John Newton

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Newton_%28ACW%29

Newton was a division commander in the VI Corps, Army of the Potomac. He was a good defensive general, who is probably most famous for replacing Doubleday as I Corps commander on the field at Gettysburg (who had replaced Reynolds). Newton later ended up in the west commanding a division under Sherman.

I would recommend 3/1/3 and "entrencher" (solid defensive positions at Gettysburg and good last minute entrenchments at The Battle of Peachtree Creek....see wikipedia entry)

Newton was a Burnside whistleblower and that prevented him from ever having a key command. Finished the war in command at Key West and tried to capture Tallahassee late and failed.

3-1-2 as Division
3-1-1 as Corps
