A couple minor issues

Thu May 20, 2010 2:45 pm

Greetings, my first post so hopefully i do this right, recently aquired WW1 and the gold update kit and am enjoying learning the game.

1: I recall seeing this posted but cannot seem to find the post. When i start the game I hear the music but i have a black screen until it gets to the screen with the Aegod logo where it proceeds to initialize the game. A direction to the post with the fix or a reply with the fix is appreciated.

2: When i go into the "Configure Game" there is a section called "Display game map of Gold Edition". When i enable it and start the game it proceeds to load up to the game menu. I select single player and either a campaign or a scenario. It proceeds to intialize the map then the scenario, at which point it crashes (Windows has detected a problem) and i close the program. Again any solution would be appreciated. Note when i disable this option it does proceed to load up normally.

If you see the black screen instead of the intro video, it means you have not installed the DivX codecs.

Another player had exactly the same problem reported by you, and he installed the Gold Upgrade Kit over the old version of WW1 like you say:

In the end that player discovered the reason was he installed the Gold Kit with UAC filter on!

So disable the UAC (my advice: for ever! :mdr :) . Uninstall the game, and then install again (with UAC off) WW1 + the Gold Kit.

Will do and thanks Calvinus, from my perusal of the forums the UAC does indeed seem to be more trouble than its worth.

I finished up getting rid of the UAC and doing a reinstall, however the game laucher says i have an invalid serial key (which i did copy down before i did anything). I may have done it in an inverse order from what Calvinus said, so did i mess it up or has UAC struck again, as it were?

Only install the gold version and only use that key.

Have you typed the serial key using the WW1 Configurator tool?
Is the serial key present inside WW1.ini and Serial.ini files?

Are you sure you typed the serial key of the Gold edition?

Yes, I purchased WW1 then the gold update kit, when i did so the instructions stated that a new key would be sent for the gold update. It is the key i was using when I posted about the issues in my first post.

We must be sure the current version of WW1.exe file is the Gold edition.
This exe file is copy-protected with the new serial key.

Also, please check the serial key is properly typed in, all symbols.

In the end, send a PM to PhilThib asking him the download link of the full Gold Installer... :bonk:

To do this, go to game folder and click on WW1.exe with the right mouse button.

A popup menu will appear, choose Properties, a window will appear.
Select the 'Details' tab and check the version. It must be 1.0.8.0 or higher.

If it's 1.0.6.x or 1.0.7.x, that WW1.exe file is not the Gold. In such a case, this is why the new serial key is not accepted.

Many thanks Calvinus, as per your post (#10), on a hunch i reactivated my UAC and found that reading my own handwriting can be an obstruction, I did indeed have the serial key wrong

I deactivated my UAC again and the game launched with no problem, I enjoyed the opening screen, and the map does indeed look great. Fabulous job by you (and all who helped). From what I can see from my test run the game also seems to be playing more smoothly and quickly.

Looking forward to learning and playing this game I enjoyed with the original demo. Thanks again!
