4 Player vs. 2 Player Campaigns

Mon May 17, 2010 2:51 am

Could someone please explain the distinction. If you choose 4 player and pick Germany, does the computer play the allies and Austria? If so, how does one coordinate with Austria? (for example for an offensive)

Yes you guessed it if you pick the 4 player the AI will play the other 3!

In fact, the 4-player mode had been introduced for Multiplayer matches... :neener:

Maybe, but I still prefer to play on four players mode though (not online I mean)!
Because, in my opinion, it is way more good for the immersion to play France without controling Russia (even if it may be problematic concerning Austro-Hungary and Germany who are direct neighbours).

It hasn't worked very well. At least for me.

Twice, I've tried as Russia only. And twice, I get the dreaded "World War One has stopped working. Windows is looking for a solution." Box.

Don't even get through the first turn.

Using Win 7(64). Have the UAC at the lowest setting, Don't have anything running in the background.

Calvinus solved an AIvsAI siege bug with the 1.08C beta patch, that was probably the cause.

But anyways, I still dont like this mode! :P Even immersion is better for me in the two players mode.

I like playing the 4-player game much more, even with AI, so hopefully the crashing in the 4-player GC is gone now...

I am running 1.08C. :)

I'd rather control one nation myself, and Russia seems the most fitting.

The technical forum contains some interesting threads.
You will find some useful suggestions by other customers concerning UAC disable, AntiVirus configuration (shields, WW1.exe set as trusted), audio cards drivers...

I just picked up the game this week, so I'll probably have plenty of questions in a few days, but a quick one here: if I select the 2-player campaign, then select the Central Powers, what do I control?

I was running my first "grand campaign" last night as the CP against the Entente AI, and while I controlled all the military units of Germany and AH, I only appeared to have control over Germany's diplomatic & economic options. Is this by design? Or am I missing some place where I can switch to control AH's strategic choices?

You need to select an Austrian province, then you can access all the stuff of A-H as well.

And I do suggest you stick with the 2 players version, it is easier to learn the game that way. :)

Question: In the 4-player campaign, does the French player also control Great Britain?

I've only played the 2-player campaign, but I'm tempted to give the Entente a try with the AI controlling Russia.

As I recall you get to play France, Britain and Belgium.

There used to be an issue with the Americans in the 4-Player game as the AEF often behaved strangely, deploying to Africa or sitting idle in a French port and never moving towards the front. I believe Calvinus hunted down the cause and fixed this annoying glitch but I have not tried a 4-Player campaign in some time.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.
