A few gameplay Q's

Sat May 15, 2010 2:57 pm

I really like the Gold map, it just looks great! It really adds alot to the game!
You guys did a good job on the Gold version.

A few things so far:
A)the 'ins' key to browse detachments dosen't work, bug?

B)In the 'early august' pre turn, if you begin research in the warplans or events phase, you'll get a research check in early august during the diplomacy-tech phase. I just read the manual about this and it says research isn't supposed to start until the Sept. turn..So, is the manual wrong, or is researching in early august 'cheating' and a bug?

C)Naval raids.I've never understood alot about naval rules in this game. I run naval raids by leaving the ship in port and selecting a raid mission. The AI executes this mission, usually (must be an activation roll?)and picks a random city to attack. My question is, performing a naval raid like this, can it ever be intercepted? I've never seen it happen. How would you intercept it, seeing as it never 'moves'..As I said, naval aspects of this game are really confusing, and the manual really dosen't help explain missions, but it does good with combat.

Also; what turn mode does the improved Gold AI play better in, WEGO, or turn based?

B: not sure if there is a chance for that check to ever suceed, will have to wait for Calvinus with that

C) there is a chance to intercept it yes but if the nearby fleet capable of that has no mission (or an in port one) then chances are next to zero.

and regarding the AI: I think it is more agressive on the offense in WEGO, but the difference is not drastic.

I was playing the Tannenberg scenario, and I agree, in WEGO it does seem more aggressive. Samsonev never attacks in turn-based.

On the tech 'exploit' it's rare, but yesterday I got both LMG's and German technologies in early August, so it is possible to complete research.

The Ins key browse the detachments of the currently selected army, not all the detachments. The Enter key browses the armies of the selected nation.

Naval interceptions work towards naval moves, not naval missions.

The Ins key browse the detachments of the currently selected army, not all the detachments

That's just it-The ins key does nothing for me? it doesn't cycle through anything.

Another odd thing: I'm seeing air units show a 'destroyed' result, then fight on for a few rounds?

Arghh, you're right! It's the Home key, not Ins! The Readme is to be corrected. Thanks!

Glad to be of help!

I think I might have found another bug? Naval pathfinding is GREAT in this version, but the dogger bank sea area is still problematic. Sending a fleet there causes a large string of movement through costal areas and far away places.
